it all depends on my mood. sometimes i will improv the whole set while others i might be feeling uninspired and play clips or whole tunes a lot more. the way i have it set up it's almost like i can't really mess up. and some days i totally can't just improv a cool sounding bass line. most of the time i just keep it very simple and do dark minor or harmonic minor type riffs that consist of 3 or 4 notes. then u can start doing call and response type basslines where 1 bass sound plays the first 4 measures and a different bass sound plays the last 4 measures.jerry123 wrote: SuMoNe, I like the idea of your bass setups. I have a hard time with bass on-the-fly. How much do you create on stage and how much is loops waiting to be triggered?
the reason i developed this method for myself was because ableton doesn't record patch changes with simpler. i still want more than 10-12 bass sounds tho and i've thought of ways to do it by switching midi channels but either my theory is wrong or my oxy 8 is broken. and i think my oxygen 8 is broken because there is no reason why it shouldn't work. so i end up making different live set that each have a different feel or different mood to them. in the 2 months i've been doing this i've managed to create about 5 sets. but i still kind of consider them all just experimenting to find the best way for me to work.
ppl get a lot more fascinated when u r playing the keyboard more often. they equate that with live pa. if ur just standing behind a laptop they have no idea what ur doing. just remember to set ur record quantization to 8th notes(if ur not a bad ass keyboard player) and u will have nothing to worry about except playing some wack sequence that sounds gay. if i do that, i normally just hit ctrl+z and it un does the wackness. or u can just hit play in ur next empty midi clip and just keep on recording.
i've been uploading this set for 14 hours now. lol so hopefully it will be done soon. it's a little over an hour long and rendered to 128kbps stereo so it's decent quality.
