Another?

I have a PC with 1 gig really good ram, 1.9 gig processor and am having my cpu gage go past 70%, way beyond actually. Im always about 10 tracks and 2 midi tracks into not to complicated structure and a simple synth line. Also im going easy on the effects. Is this normal for my computer to be doing this?

that depends on what kind of processor it is, mate. If it's a 1.9 centrino, then you probably need to change some power settings somewhere, it should be way more powerful. If it's a regular pentium then I'm afraid that this performance is pretty standard, I guess

what soundcard you using? .. are you using the asio drivers? have you tried playing around with the latency settings?

what sofysynths/plugins do you run?

do you run Live's Reverb? if so, on what setting...

what speed drive do you have? have you set your clips set to RAM mode?

does it only go to 70% in part of the track, or for the whole of the track?

what's the CPU say when you are idle?

tried freezing tracks?

the above questions are all important, as are:

using "complex" warp mode much?--it drains resources...

are you streaming your audio from the same drive that Live is on?...using a second fast (like 7,200 RPM+) hd is much more effecient.

using tons of big mp3's? seems like some mp3 users have issues with a large decoding cache hampering performance.

Do you have your computer properly set up for audio (see musicxp.net)?

I think that sounds like possibly sub-par performance for the specs, but answering these questions will help figure it out for sure.

1) what effects are you using? disable all your effects , switch them on 1 after the other and look for the ones that increase your cpu usage with 10% or more ...

2) do you use the sendtracks to share reverb among multiple sources etc or does every track get its own gate , eq , comp , reverb & delay?

2) what soundcard? even a not so good low-latency card and fast enough harddrive can run 16 ableton audio tracks on a PIII 800 while realtime recording another stereo track on track 17

3) have you tried the free asio4all drivers?

anyway , as long as you're not raping the FX section and are comfortable with a sluggish gui , even my friends 10 year old 300 Hz macintosh portable can play your song , while rewired to reason !!! ... then again , it's a mac
