Who's using LIVE in theatre productions??

Post by ulrich KAON fischer » Fri Jul 18, 2003 1:41 pm

Hi there!

I wonder if anyone uses or used LIVE in theatre productions (during preproduction or live on stage)?

I'm actually studying at the SAE (School of Audio Engineering) Berlin and my Exam deals with the subject.

i've used Live to provide a live score and sound design for a few small plays here in the states. it was wonderful and the response was great. most small productions use a CD and someone pressing play/pause throughout the show, which is rather lame to say the least. when i proposed using Live they were really impressed with it. i could trigger sound effects lke rain, animals, etc. plus music. it was so much fun too. i couldn't believe how much i enjoyed this type of performing. i was hidden above the stage, no one could see me but it was just as exciting as when i used to play on stage with a band. very cool.

Hi, i'm a musician and work and compose a lot for the theater, i am using live on my laptop in every show that i did this hear, actors like it , and to me exept a live band is the only way to make the music follow the actors, changing in mood, color...

i have been on stage, that is preety cool to look also and outside were you can see better all the scene.

this past weekend, at a festival in the desert, i used live to provide the music for a fire troupe (http://www.saturnalia.biz). we had about fourteen modules which involve either solo or group performances of various flaming staffs, nunchucks, swords, breathing, poi, ect., each about 1-3 minutes in length. each member gave me a cd with the track they wanted for their module, and i broke them down into the intro, the body, the loop, and the outro. we had everthig from "in the hall of the mountain king", to portishead, to hard drum and bass, to faith no more. it took me only a few minuted per track to set it all up. i would use the crossfader to fade between the outro of one to the intro of another while i was changing the tempo, then fire the body (usually the first verse and chorus of the track), then the loop to fill any extra time and then to the outro. it worked really, really well. the fact that i could be flexible with the loops and the time according to what was happening on stage made it really easy to put on a good show, aside from the fact that we hadn't actually done a full runthrough with the music when we went on.
