As a DJ tool, Ableton is horrible.
Laundry list..
- no multiple cue points for the same clip?
- Mixmeister has a FAR superior beat detect/matching algorhythm
- MP3 support was a bit late coming
- No realtime switching of sets / no multiple instances
The saving grace for this software is the ease of integration with any midi controller. This is more of a triggering software than a true DJing software.
And another thing...
HOW ABOUT ADDING A SIMPLE WAV EDITOR?
I'm sure Version 6 will get it right.

- why do you need multiple cue points in one clip? make a new clip instance down the grid
- learn how to warp your tracks, you dont need autowarp if you know what you're doing
- you have mp3 support now. i totally dont see your point
- why do you need multiple sets for DJing?? this also makes no sense to me.

As a musicians tool Ableton is wonderful..... Go figure....
- no multiple cue points for the same clip?
Copy the clip.... Set it up different.
- Mixmeister has a FAR superior beat detect/matching algorhythm
Mattel make great MIDI controllers.
- MP3 support was a bit late coming
The past.... A great place to live..... It now does support MP3 so forget
bout it..... Now you can play your really low quality files to the masses.
- No realtime switching of sets / no multiple instances
Yeah because it's so efficient doing it that way.
Wave editor? What you don't have one that is perfectly suited to your
needs and that you love working with? Just set it as your external wave
editor.
Where the hell is my kitchen sink!!!!

Well grow up because at least there is something. Live is fine and flexible and you should be grateful it even exists.
+ Mixmeister takes all the fun out of DJing. Take some chances for once.

yeah, and the wav editor:
- what kind of simple wav editor tasks do most people do on a regular basis that cant be done faster and better by copying the clip to arrange view, working on it there and consolidating?
i use this program every day and as i recall there was one time in possibly the last 4 months that i needed soundforge to wav edit: converting a couple of left-channel stereo drum samples to mono.
and even that i could have done faster if i thought of rendering the sample to disk thru the utility plug. which i just thought of right now.
i dont see a single point that was made by the original poster that made any sense whatsoever
blatant troll imo.

this is what Live Clips are for.dj_statikfire wrote:- no multiple cue points for the same clip?
work ok for me.
Yeah, I too have noticed that Mixmeister has a superior beatmatching scheme going on but as far as I can tell you can only do very linear mixes. YOu can create a hitmix compilation CD with MixMeister but you can't really DJ with it.
I'm not to arms up in the air over Ableton supporting mp3's. I think the reasons for not supporting mp3's were fairly obvious in the first place. It's time to move on. ANybody out there using FLAC instead of mp3? Seems like an obvious enough switch to me but folks are slow to catch on and EDM Digital is on of the few sites offering FLAC digital downloads.
DISCLAIMER: Losers take not to how I was able to respond in this thread without sounding offended or (until now) choosing to belittle anyone for their opinion. Please think before you post dribble.

I almost forgot....A wav editor in live? Given the logistics, I think thats easier said than done. Live needs to do what it does PERFECTLY. Remeber the Live4 days where it would never crash? That what it was all about. Give me something I can play out with and not worry about crashing when I'm dragging in large clips to my session and I'm continue to happily edit wavs in wavelab.
