Gig...in Melbourne, Australia.... and the setup!

Post by Winterpark » Sat Dec 03, 2005 1:37 am

Hey Forum,

I've got the first gig with my new project.

"Winter Park", this Sunday the 4th December, 8.30pm at the Evelyn, Brunswick St. Fitzroy. Playing with Bertie Blackman and the Hampdens.

hear some music at:
www.myspace.com/winterpark

learn some more at:
www.winterparkmusic.com

...

For all you tech heads who may be interested, i'll let you know what's going on on stage...

Live Drummer, Bass, Guitar and Vocals.

i-book running live (derr...) :) with a motu traveller.

traveler has inputs from keys, bass and guitar, running realtime fx.

4 channels of audio in live being played back

Some programed bass being sent to a Bass amp. (when the bass isn't being played)

Drums going via through a TC electronics triple c compressor.

Pad sounds going through a Korg Kaoss pad.

both these get routed back into the traveler, and then out to a stereo mix.

drummer playing to a click and headphone mix, of live inst, and backing.

... and if i can get it finished in time....

live midi triggering quicktime movies on a seperate computer, through a simple setup in Quartz Composer (on a different computer)... going to a digital projector....

wish me luck!

Yay!

went well, no technical hickups... with the music side of things.

i couldn't get to sync the movies with music, as i ran out of time, so i ended up just pressing the space bar on my friends powerbook running the visuals through quicktime.... worked well enough.

It's good to have 'one under the belt'!

Hey fellow melbournites... I was gonna start a new topic for this, and might still if no-one replies here.

Well congrats on the gig am.

I was wondering though, have any of you people been to a computer music store called arck? It's in collingwood, really discreet sort of place, wondered if anyone had any thoughts about them. They seemed to have the knowledge and gear, but first-hand testimonials would be great.

And that brings up another question, where do you guys look for gear in melbourne?

i think i've been to ark in North Melbourne..?.. is it a store that does ebay sales?

as for where i shop, i go to Manny's... like a home away from home... they have an excellent knowledgable staff, always willing to go above and beyond to help out.

best place for stuff in melbourne?!? has to be factory sound in south melb.!!! they don't haveabsolutely everything (according to the staff some of the distributors don't like how much they undercut the competition), but if they have it it'll be cheaper than anywhere else, and if not, they'll match it.

otherwise i've been going to music junction in blackburn. there's some guys out there that are pretty good, but the prices aren't as cheap as factory sound...

it's definately where you know people i reckon. Just hang out at a store, talk to the guys, they'll usually give you a discount if they know that you'll be a regular.

2nd that on factory sound. Their end of year sale is usually pretty good. especially the 'auction items'.
