My tip to use microKontrol's Pad with Live 5
My goal is very simple:
a) Trigger clips via the Pads of my microKontrol AND
b) See the red light under each pad when the clip is playing, only when it is playing
step1
Set on the korg microKontrol each Pad like this:
send CC# (use any controler)
midi ch (choose any ch)
Typ: Toggle
Step 2
in Live in pref/default choose Gate as the default clip trigger mode
(you can do this by hand on every clip if you prefer not to set gate as default)
Step3
Assign each clip or scene or track trigger to the pad you need.
and
set for each the controler mode to "Signed Bit" in the left down corner of Live window.
Default value is absolute.
This is very important.
Setp4 enjoy.
my tip is not perfect because when you trigger another clip in the same track the first clip will stop.
this is the way Live works.
But your microKontrol won't get a feedback to turn the light off.
So here is the way I use it.
I setup Pads for tack Trigger and not clip trigger.
I hit the pad to play the 1st clip
Then I select the next clip in the same track
I hit the Pad to turn light off
I hit the pad to make the switch to the selected clip
and so on.
I hope this will create feedback and ideas inside this forum to improve it.
to be continued...

In the Librarian software that came with the microKontrol (avail korg.com) you need to send the pre-set setting for Live to the Kontrol pad.
On the Korg, you then select this setting so that "Live" appears on the korg display. There were 3 different pre-set settings for live in the Librarian software. You'll know you have it on the right setting for impulse if only the top 4 buttons are red.
You then have to set the midi ins in the midi chanel to receive midi from Korg port B or "all in".
Thats it.

Any idea how/where to get more ableton preset settings for the Librarian program?
The prestet setting for Q-base and Reason are quite comprehensive but those for live are pretty basic.
I found this to be a bit strange considering that the korg actually comes with a free version of live 4 and not q-base or reason?????
I'm sure I could create the settings myself but i'm hoping not to go to that much effort.

That would probably be because there's no point in setting presets for Live as there is for Cubase or Reason. How would Korg choose what fx, clips or instruments you'd like to control? How would they know what your particular Live set looks like? Have you read the Live manual so you're familiar with how Live's remote controller concept works out? It's definitely recommended reading!Gnosis wrote:Any idea how/where to get more ableton preset settings for the Librarian program?

hello,CopyRightJustice wrote:Hi olivierseb I don't understand the pad will not respond to controller feedback whatever I do. I was under the impression that the microcontrol/kontrol49 does not support controller feedback.I have a k49 but they are the same inside.
Thanks
Yes you are right microKontrol or control49 doesn't support feedback in user mode (in native mode any application like Korg legacy collection,LogicPro or LCXMU use feedback but they use sysex).
My very humble trick is just a way to keep pad light and clip status in sync as long as possible.
I achieve this using GATE mode for clip and the "Signed Bit" for controler assignement.
This is not perfect but I thought it could useful.

yes that's a pityCopyRightJustice wrote:Darn I really want cc feedback. As they have endless encoders and lit buttons you would think they would respond to cc feedback what a waste
thanks anyway
There is one solution:
try LCXmu
http://www.opuslocus.com/lcxmu/
it will emulate a Mackie Control from your korg.
As Live supports Mackie Control, yo will get a better support for encoders and LCD.
give it a try
or wait until Live supports Korgs.

sorry Buddy.
For one time the Mac offers more than PC world.
Anyway, I did a little test with LCXMu:
I didn't find a way to use the PAD for clip trigger with LCXMu, the pad emulates some others commands of the mackie control but not the free assignables 16 switches on the top right side.
Maybe John has an idea to improve this.
