Best software sampler?

I am looking for the best all around sampler. I would like it if it would work on both pc and mac. The interface and way it works with live are very important. I want to use it for making varius styles of electronic music as well as being able to use it for "natural" sounds. So I am looking for a workhorse sampler.

Any thoughts are welcome

depends how you define something as being best.
I've been with kontakt since v1.0, and have had no serious issues. It's the only software sampler I care to use, so I can't say for the other ones. If your going to get it though, I would suggest holding off for a month or two if you can, at least until word of how the development is going to proceed. Read the K2 forum, but don't be dismayed by all you read. If our using your own samples, and not going to crazy on the convolution, you should be right. I'm only using my own wavs/aifs, and can pretty much do all I want with it. But others, it would appear, experience much pain with their usages.

I use Mach 5 and think its pretty good. It doesn't timestretch though.

definitely ShortCircuit. It has some of the depth of kontakt, but without the ridiculous cpu usage and crummy interface.

I would also like to add Energy XT to the pool - it's so cool, and the built-in sampler is very nice.

nn-xt is ql, you can have a killer sampler with a bunch of nn19's in combinator patch

thanks for all the feedback. I had looked at shortcircuit a wile back but I am worried that it just cant play back all the formats that I would like it to. As a sampler it is key that I can use it for all types of libraries. I am going to download the demo and try it though. I had someone remind me of Halion. Any thoughts on that one?

Man I hate buying software somtimes

At least the losses if you buy the wrong thing are not quite as bad as with hardware.
