A NEW SLANT ON THIS SUBJECT ??

I would just like to start by thanking Ableton for a fantastic program, it was solely responsible for getting me back into making music.

Saying that I have had the same problems with audio for the first time on a new high spec pc. It mainly happens when looping and using a lots of plugins.

The spec is Dual core 4400 AMD, 2ghz ram 80gig 10,000rpm raptor drive and the soundcard is a Maudio 410 firewire.

Previosly I was using aN Acer 1ghz laptop with 1gig ram and an ext 7200rpm hard drive with no problems it would run the processor up to 75% with no problems. The new super PC's audio crackles and drops out when the abelton CPU read out says 60% and the task manager reads 33% ??,This is worrying !!. The only way to stop the drop out is to increase the Buffer size in the Maudio prefrences from 512mb (which is what the Laptop work fine with) to 1024. This fine for playback but it introduces big latancey problems.

this if OT, but it's really strange to read about performance problems on high performance computers so often. i have a 1,7ghz/512mb ram laptop and use buffersize 1024/asio. there have to be lots of instruments with reverb and delay to track my pc down, but maybe it's because i am making techhouse/ambient and not orchestreal music. well, i love my 2 1/2 year old amilo

don't dump maudio. Just dump the firewire on your PC. maudio PCI cards work great on a PC.

maudio firewire works great on a 6pin firewire mac (i.e., with power supplied by the mac)

I don't know why, but I speak from experience! I have both setups! when I try to run the firewire on my PC it sucks, and both cards are the same, i.e., maudio audiophile 24/96, the only difference is the connection.

Coincidently, I also run a high spec AMD system and it runs well with the internal maudio card

yes you can, you can give as many details about your system as you possibly can so we can figure out why it is that you dont seem to be having any problems

i dont get why people come into these threads with nothing to add but "gee, its a mystery why your stuff isnt working ok, mine works GREAT!!"
