silence at beginning of recorded audio

Hi I'm a non tech-head Ableton user, and I'm sure this is a very simple issue so do I hope someone can assist me without too much stress!

From the very beginning of using the program there has been a small but noticeable portion of silence at the beginning of recorded audio (30 - 80 ms approx) that pushes the audio out of sync with the Arrangement timeline.
When working with clips, loops and short phrases this has not been a big issue - very easy to fix and it hasnt bothered me at all.
However, later this month I would like to purchase the m-audio promix, and record my band (which will involve 6 - 8 tracks from mic inputs for the drums etc..). I would like to use Live as multitrack software to do this this, which I am sure it is capable of doing.

The band will be playing to guide tracks that are already prepared in Live.
With my current set-up, were I to record them - the resulting multitrack audio would be out of sync with the existing bass lines and samples in the session.

I would be extremely pleased to have some advice/assistance in eliminating the delay/silence at the beginning of recordings.

Apple Mac G5 (1.6 GHZ single processer/ 1Gig RAM/ 80 & 160GB internal ATA Drives)
Digidesign Mbox (original version)
Live 5

I have the latency set to equal 0 in the main preference window. I have no idea what this means but it seemed sensible at the time.

I have similar equipment as you.
First set live up to compensate for any hidden latencies the sound card has.To do this complete the audio latency lesson (Live 5 Lessons).Then the program should line all recordings up and eliminate the silence for you. (This is what the preference u mentioned is for)
Unless you are recording external midi instruments (I still get silence at the beginning)
