serato scratch live or final scratch 2
serato scratch live or final scratch 2
I´m producer and dj and i want to play my songs.... What is better serato scratch live or final scratch 2 ????
Re: ........
I have Serato and I'll suggest the same, but I hate the interface, it looks ugly as hell and i prefer the looping functions of the FS2.Deft wrote:Get Serato.
I would like to have both but apparently there are only unsatisfied FS2 customers...

FS2 has worked perfectly for me so far. However, I haven't used Serato before.
When I DJ, I don't do anything fancy, just straight mixing. However, I mix "hip hop" style (I think) and mix really fast... like 2 mins per song max. I get really bored with electronic dance music.![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I don't use FS for it's special functions, just straight mixing. And because I don't let tracks play out for more than 2-3 minutes, it's important to have a HUGE catalog of tracks. My hard drive is a lot bigger than my record bag. Heh.
Also, it's really, really, nice to buy tracks for $1.50 instead of $10+... And MP3's don't get scratches and wear out.
It's also nice to be able to play tracks that you can't find on vinyl, or stuff you just finished rendering in Live a few hours ago.
It Is sort of funny to read the FS forums though. Everyone (obviously) owns FS2 on there, and all they do is bitch and complain about how much better Serato is. I've always wondered why the hell they just don't sell FS2 and get Serato? It's not like they'd lose too much money on the transfer over.
Well FS2 is just fine for me. It can be a bit funky immediately following the calibration, but that doesn't mess me up. Sometimes there is a little skip here or there during that period, but it's not a big deal. I prefer it over Live for DJing because I'm used to the two records interface, and it gives my hands more to do rather than just twist knobs on my MIDI controller. That's my opinion though.![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I run FS2 on an iBook G4 1ghz, 256 megs of ram, 30 gigs of hard drive. I also use this machine for internet, email, homework, watching movies, doing Live PA, and producing music. It's a total workhorse, and hasn't failed me yet.

Re: serato scratch live or final scratch 2
Check the Serato board (http://scratchlive.net/forum) to see how satisfied people are with it and how good the support is (free software updates e.g.). The NI FS board you see a different (horror) story....coolyiyo wrote:I´m producer and dj and i want to play my songs.... What is better serato scratch live or final scratch 2 ????
The fact that one of the driving forces behind FS (Richie Hawtin) switched to SSL says enough I guess...

Used it for about a year flawlessly. As long as the turntables at the club didn't have any bass feedback and I used my own needles I never had any problems.JohnDP wrote:@DJSK, do you use FS2 without any problems at all? no crashes, no hiccupes, no freezing?
If I want to scratch I bring a scratch record. If there is a song that I feel like backspinning out of a mix then I play that song on CD and go back to ableton.spiderprod wrote:not for scratching .DJSK wrote: Ableton is better than both of them though.
The way things are going right now with ableton, a scratch feature is right around the corner anyways. Xone 3D's have jog wheels on them. It's only a matter of time.

with either of these you can replace your record bags/cases you take to spin with a laptop in a backpack and have ALL of your music with you instead of just a limited selection.DJSK wrote: True they are completey different tools. But aside from scratching and backspinning what can Serato or Final Scratch do that Ableton can't.
you can then mix just like you normally do with records, with the real hands on realtime control of touching the platter/spindle/label to beatmatch and correct for drift.
all of this without the "he's not a dj, he's not doing anything, he is checking his email and looking for porn behind that laptop screen." stigma.
i don't dj, either in ableton (i use it for a sketchpad to record into) or with wax, but i have friends that spin and get paid, and can definately understand the market or need for these products.
once too many small dj's (ie. not well-known international dj's) start "working smarter, not harder", they are going to be suprised when promoters start wanting to pay them less.
not because you are worth less if you dj off a laptop or even ipods, but because there are going to be *tons* more kids with live and a laptop begging them for any slots they can get to spin for cheap or free.
