F*** Off Live 6
nope , but I remember upgrading my first ableton 2 lite i got from a friend (bundled with his soundcard) to live 4 full version for half of the price live 4 costed in the shops at that time so it'll still be a bargain probablyby the way... do you think that the cost of the upgrade from 4 to 6 and from 5 to 6 will be the same ?

I have decided not to bother getting myself all pissed off over live 6 until i see how much gets sorted out in 5.2. If 5.2 is a dissapointment then I will be more inclined to be pissed off.
Hey FORGE where do you get the idea that there will be a few more updates before 6? I dont expect to see much if anything after 5.2 as they are making a big deal out of it.

mainly going by past versions - 6 is scheduled for Q3 - it's still only Q1Mike Goodwin wrote: Hey FORGE where do you get the idea that there will be a few more updates before 6? I dont expect to see much if anything after 5.2 as they are making a big deal out of it.
the reason it's 5.2 is to make the distinction for the intel macs, but I'm sure there will be 5.2.1, 5.2.2 etc -or at least if the problems people are having arent ironed out - they're not usually inlcined to just leaving it be when there are so many complaints
it would have been 5.1 but they were wary of the surround connotations (that's true quote BTW)
if 5.2 still doesnt work before Q3 there will be more revisions - and there hasnt been a single point 4.1,3.2 etc, it's always been 4.1.4, 3.0.4 or whatever - they just keep on fixing it till it works
I definitely seem to have noticed Ableton are keeping more quiet on the forum than they used to, but that's more likely to mean they are busier than ever

5.1, yes thats right I remember reading that now. Yes it makes sense that we would see a 5.2.1 and so on then.forge wrote:it would have been 5.1 but they were wary of the surround connotations (that's true quote BTW)Mike Goodwin wrote: Hey FORGE where do you get the idea that there will be a few more updates before 6? I have not been around as much as I was i couple of months ago but it seems that the abes are being quite. From my expearance this can mean a couple of things. The company is keeping a lid on things, or that you are just not at the top of the priority list (in this case the forum). Could be either or both or neither who knows. [/quote]
I just hope that after the 5.2 release they don't focus on other priorities for this version. you know 5.2.1 bug fixes for new macs, and not other real performance issues.

The main thing ableton need to concentrate on right now is giving its current users a good working version for their current computers (I get a strong impression they couldn't really give a shit about us though...Talking about Live 6 with the current state of Live Itsallaboutthamoney ???). Yeah I wish I could go out and buy a new dual core mac (version 5 isn't woking I'll buy the next one how does that work again?) but money is not growing on any trees near me. And anyway we deserve to get a version that works on our current setups...we did pay for it (how many months ago?)
MacBook MacOS Live 9.7.1 Max for Live Push Logic
money doesnt actually grow on trees near the Ableton offices either and you might be surprised how hard it is to make such a top notch program with a team of 40 odd when so many wont even pay for it and used cracked versions - you might actually be surprised how well they're doing.kineticUk wrote:Trueunusable wrote:I just hope that after the 5.2 release they don't focus on other priorities for this version. you know 5.2.1 bug fixes for new macs, and not other real performance issues.

Aside from all that anyway, you couldnt be more wrong about them not giving a shit, really you couldnt. I've met the guys and talked to them quite in depth and there are legitimate reasons for all the problems and they are all being addressed, it just doesnt take 10 mintues to fix these problems and they have something like 1000 on their ist of bugs, problems and improvements which they are working through one by one which means prioritising.
they want it to be the best it can be and that means constantly and consistantly improving things about it that dont work at the same time as fixing other issues that dont work for some - but often there are different people working on different parts of the process
if you look at the recent thread with a poll where someone said is live 5 working ok for you there were actually alot, maybe even majority who said it was fine for them
there is another thing to consider and that is the mighty sequencers have been going a good 10 years or so longer than Ableton so they had alot of catching up to do in order to qualify for the title of DAW and I dont think they've done to badly at all
anyway, if you're worried, I strongly advise getting involved in the Beta testing phase as it's the perfect chance to make sure your bugs are ironed out because you get constant response and attention to your posts and problems during the beta because the whole of Ableton's energy is devoted to it, but in the mean time if you have a problem, keep on at the support@ email because they do get read
Thanks for the heart warming sob story...My heart Bleeds. And as far as statistics go (The Poll) it makes no difference if the problems are still there. People on this forum all use live differently. Also I have not got 10 Years to wait right now I just want bugs fixed in version 5 (Which I paid for by the way).
I hope you are right and ableton do care about the current state of the program and its users, the reason I think not is because to announce live 6 with the state live 5 is in to me sounds like they've bailed out.We all want the same thing in the end (A good version but come on this version is very very very bad), If you could think about what I am saying and why I am saying it you'll see I have good reason to say it. Cause I am not here to hate I don't make shit up (If we all use this forum 2 kiss abletons ass, they get no truthful feedback and nothing will ever get fixed)
Peace

Live 6
I passed on version 5 when the demo was so flakey. Everything I hear from forums is not reassuring and to hear the talk of 6 means to me that the marketeers have access to too much coffee or a buy out is in the wind because if the code is buggy now how can new code based on bad code be better? You need more than new to convince a core user base to upgrade. With 5 new has a bad rap.
I can afford to upgrade but I don't need the problems. Or maybe its just driven by hardware and the new microsoft OS.
