1) Ableton Live CPU Meter: 50%
2) Make/Model: Dell Inspiron 9400
3) Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP2
4) CPU Make Model and Speed: Intel Core Duo T2500 (2.0GHz)
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram: 1Gb 667 MHz
6) Soundcard: RME Fireface 800
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed: 100Gb 7200RPM

This is really amazing, I'm floored as to why the CPU meter is so high... I performed this test on a fresh install of XP SP2, with the only things installed at the time I ran the test were:

Live 5.0.3
Chipset drivers
Video card drivers
Sound card drivers

It's interesting to note that the windows CPU meter flicks quickly between about 24% and 32% while the Ableton meter reads a pretty consistent 50%...

I haven't put on all my plugs or anything yet, so I haven't been able to test the machine's real performance vs. my old machine (P4 3.2 Northwood) just yet, but I'm 99% sure the CPU metering is out of whack because it's dual core and when I open some old projects they won't be chugging badly or anything at all...

Hmm... just did a reinstall of SP1 and I'm hitting that sweet 24% spot :)

So what exactly was it about SP2 that was killing it I wonder... I had also installed the latest RyanVM pack, that might have done it, although I can't see how Microsoft hotfixes could kill performance... ;)

SP2 in my case didn´t have this issue. i would make an image of your system now and install SP2.
What do you think in generell of the Dell 9400? Pretty nice thing, ha?

HI guys,

thought i'd drop you a line on the 5.2 beta performance for comparison

1 - 27-29%
2 - iMac Desktop
3 - OSX 10.4.5
4 - 2GHz Duo Core Intel 32bit
5 - 1GB (one stick)
6 - Onboard (waiting for Alesis to pull their fingers out!)
7 - 7200RPM (250GB)

Not too bad! Performing about as well as a Dual Core G5 (running at 2.3 GHz) but a little less than 64bit PC processor.

Would be good to hear how others get on with the new Mactels.

Spacerboy - the 9400 kicks ASS... heavily ;)

I've got it set up to connect by firewire to my desktop machine, so I can use its hard drives... Fuckin rocks coz I've got it so that the drive letters of the desktop hard drives are the same on the desktop as on the laptop, so u can seemlessly work on desktop projects on the lappy... and for portability, you can just save self-contained!!!

Just figured out what the problem was with SP2 and Ableton... friggin speedstep had it at 997 mHz or whatever, and Ableton wasn't enough to bring it up to full speed, hence 50% CPU...

SpeedswitchXP or even just running CPU-Z brings it up to full speed and 24% ableton awesomeness... :D

1 - 27-31%
2 - Intel iMac
3 - OSX 10.4.5
4 - 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
5 - 1GB Ram (2x512)
6 - Onboard Audio (default 13 ms)
7 - 160 GB 7200RPM SATA

The only VSTi visible and usable by Live 5.2 is Crystal...
But the good news is that all of my favorites (VSTi's) are comming soon to Intel Macs anyway and even better news is that Live 5.2 runs like a champ :D
Thanks heaps Abletons...

Live 5.2 BetaV4 :-

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter - 24% -> 27%
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model - HP TC4200 Tablet PC
3) Operating System - Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2OO5 SP2
4) CPU Make Model and Speed - Intel Pentium M 1.86 Processor 750
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram - 1.49GB / DDR533 sd2
6) Soundcard - Stock Audio card ASIO4ALL Version 2.6 Driver
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed - 5400rpm

Initially it was hovering around 60% then i got V2.6 of ASIO4all on the go and it came up roses!
