It's just a different CPU chip.
Nothing major to that kind of upgrade.
It's really more about Intel than Apple.

Except 2.0 ghz on Apple is roughly = to 4.0 ghz on Windows machines. Apple processing speeds have always been numerically smaller than Windows machines' but because Apple computers are so much more efficient, the numbers don't really reflect reality. Hence why my G5 powermac 2.1 ghz is much more powerful than your Dell 4.0 ghz.jasonjbundy wrote:
Apple simply did that to compete with the Intel Duo PC machines that are currently available from Dell & others.

WOW! You really don't know what you're talking about.kramerica wrote:

Did you catch the part about it being an INTEL chip?
What is that? A .38?
38, 39, whatever it takes.

I guess that's why powerbooks get crushed by PC's in the live 5 testsjasonjbundy wrote:

Man that really efficient 1.67 pb with 1G ram I had shoulda been been awesome but wasn't. And slower speeds dosen't really mean better performance, just older hardware.
I hope that you're talking about overall performance and not on live, because my little tiny Centrino 2.0 lappy hands down beats your powerful G5

No, I am no hater. However I do loathe myself for shelling out upgrade money for Live 5.leisuremuffin wrote:hater.

But platform upmanship/snobbery is boring. I have and work on PC's/Macs, and both are subjected to all kinds of fuck ups except one is a color wheel and the other is just a freeze.
It is just a machine after all.
i ordered my 1.83ghz duo MacBook last night.
woke up today to find they've updated the CPU's.
after 3 minutes of freaking out, Apple tells me that anyone who ordered the 1.67ghz will get a 1.83, and anyone who ordered the 1.83 will get a 2.0
::sigh of relief::
i also ordered the 7200rpm HD upgrade from Apple, plus a 2nd GB stick from macsales.com
this laptop is gonna OWN!

NOICE!!!!
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.
some of you guys fighting about windows vs mac speeds-
listen it was never apples fault. its the processor plus memory bandwith etc that creates speed. the g5 chip is a behemoth hence why so many gaming consoles are using it for processed graphics etc. the powerchip excels in certain areas and blows in others (example:speed per wat, cooling, simple oriented taskes)
apple thought going intel would be a better choice for consumers overal and they are right. they are right especially because IBM didn't provide better cheaps down the road.
FUCK DUDE us mac users have been using G4's for like 5 years!!!
As an OS no one can really tell what system will be faster windows or macs because before it was like comparing apples and oranges. HOWEVER now we might be able to have a clear picture on what OS is actually faster.
Its a safe bet the Mac will perform better with grapchis, possibly music production under intel than windows but who knows.
BOTTOM LINE IS macs will now be as fast as Pcs.
OK? no more . done. debate over =)
