Using Live for live vocal processing

Post by yacht » Sat Feb 18, 2006 1:42 am

Does anyone here do this? I've run the latency tutorial/session and I still get unwanted delay on vocals being monitored through Live.

Any tips, tricks, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

well delay is caused by many things....

audio interfaces are usually the main culprits. i've found that any latency over 64 samples in and out (total of 128) is going to be noticable live.

but also you have the latency that is added by DSP plug-in effects.
plug-ins such as vintage warmer will add as much as 512 samples of latency to your signal.

so my best advice is use a low latency, non-class compliant soundcard (companies that develop their own bandwidth dsp technology) with excellent rock-solid drivers (RME, Motu, Metric Halo), and use only effects that add the smallest amount of latency.
