easy recording /playback of loops
Hi, Just bought Live and I love it. What I need to be able to do though is record, say a bassline from my guitar alongside a drumloop without taking my hands off the guitar. I've tried assigning midi controllers to the record button etc but it's not having it - anyone know how to do this, (via MIDI) ?
Cheers,
Gareth

key/midi -> start recording
unfortunately not possible yet, but soon you will be able to assign keys/midi in a much more convenient way ...

great
great!
I'm glad that live are looking at that issue.
Recording and playback could be a lot easier.
I love LIVE.
I'm building a customized USB lycra glove for triggering loops and recording - allowing me to walk around the stage between guitar and keyboard, triggering + recording loops without taking my hands off either.
[I might make one for my vocalist so she can use live loops as well (in addition to here kaos pad fx)]
The following challenges arise:
1. Monitoring is only allowed when record-enabled, which causes a few problems. Firstly, as soon as I record a loop and commence it's playback my monitoring (through crazy fx) is gone.
2. If I am set up to record, but need to trigger a whole scene, then the system will start to record on my clip slot when i dont want it to.
Basically there needs to be a way to monitor through fx and trigger recording independantly.
If any users have an idea, or ableton, if you have this one solved already then just tell me, otherwise i will do my best to offer some suggestions.

try this. play your drumloop in track1. assign one midi key to arm recording on track2 and a second midi key to a slot on track2. the second midi key will start and stop your recording once the track is armed for recording. this should give you hands-free recording.
it's cool to finally hear from people that are using live to record rather than just firing off pre-recorded clips. i was trying to have live replace my electrix repeater, but recording/playback in live is still kinda quirky. it's hard to record a clip that is the correct length, but i posted those woes on another subject. an overdub feature would be nice too.

I tried this but it doesn't seem to work on my system. Can you use CC's or does it have to be not on/off midi commands?.
I second the overdub feature definately.
One more thing - The control over vst plugin parameters is extremely crude - any way of improving this?

Gareth,
i'm using a behringer fcb1010. as an example for midi assignments for a track, i have controller number 0 and controller value 127 to arm the track; controller number 1 and controller value 127 to select a slot (start and stop recording). you can write to me at [email protected] if you have any more questions. let me know if this works for you.
