here is some stuff NOT to put in live 6
video....
thats all.
thats all.
I don´t think anyone is asking for a fullfledged ableton video sequencing app , at least not me . .. just a way to monitor a single video file in sync with lives clock . . . alot of people make a living scoring commercials and such , and live is severly lacking in this department . . .

I'm willing to bet most of the responses will be "it's not what Live is built for" and I sort of agree. There are other tools out there for doing video/audio manipulating and I don't think it should be added into Live. I'd rather see more MIDI capabilities, more effects/plugins, etc.... and bug fixes of course

what nonsense!
sure, make it a payable option if it keeps people like these posters happy
but for sync playback of a single video file in LIVE
(a) its not that hard
(ie quicktime support - someone made a basic plugin with
pluggo that almost does enough... compared with the amazing
achievements of LIVE, adding video playback would not be a biggy)
(b) why not?
to say there are other applications is irrelevant
i could also use those other apps for making music
but its LIVE that I love to work in... and with the addition
of simple quicktime video playback I could finally
ditch those other apps...
i would stream LIVE into one of those other apps
but that kills all the VST plugs i depend on...
sorry if I'm being a bit reactionary but i feel its time betetr spent
focusing on the positive & what you want...
not what you think others shouldnt have!?
FWIW the DJ features are a waste of time for me
but I appreciate there are people for whom they are useful/critical
& god bless them... I try to keep an open mind
ableton aren't about to turn LIVE into a VJ tool
or a competitor for Motion/After Effects
thats just ridiculous... and a totally different market...
but adding basic sync quicktime playback would open
a whole new market for both ableton AND its existing users...
so you've never been asked to write music for a short film?
try it sometime before you try & make a non option for everyone else...

I would like video too.
Make a video playing plug. I dont know anything about
coding, but I suspect it could be done.
Load your video playin plug, instead of importing presets
you select your video - which will only show in the open
plug interface.
Cant see how this would interfer with the video haters

I dont think anyone asked for video editing. Now, some of us in heremaxbaun wrote:If your looking for video software. Why the hell would anyone use a DAW for it when their are better progs out for video?
do audio for video. For me that could be a commercial, presentation ect.
Live is Audio and should never be video, but the possibility to load a video
and sync it up would be a big plus for those of us who do this kind of work.

For your information I have had an audio track of mine put into two shorts, they did the editing/adding of it to their film, not me. It's not my forte and not my profession.
If they add it in, fine, will I bother upgrading if they do will depend on what the music-side of updates gets me. I like what this can do so far for a musical application, some really neat stuff but don't need it for video because I don't do video/audio stuff. I'd like to see bug fixes before features are added (save them for 6.0 after heavy beta testing) personally.

I don´t agree...look at Cubase SX - they added a video option and "nobody" work on it... - ---> the reason: Nuendosubbasshead wrote:but adding basic sync quicktime playback would open a whole new market for both ableton AND its existing users...
I think Ableton know exactly that this will be a "possible problem" for marketing - except they offer a additional version (for example: Live Pro)
Salutat
Circulum musicum
Reniti contra institio
Live should focus on other topics
I think Live in the current code stream is too much engaged in the race to Intel-Mac to loose time on something that will bloat the current product.
Today Live has a clean user interface with everything under a couple of clicks, to achieve a professional level of video editing and sync will mean break the interface. There are better apps on the market about video editing and sync.
Take the Mac, Final Cut express, Final Cut, and even iLife provide good experience. IMHO we do not need another one, Live is good at making music and still needs a lot of debugging.
The Live clip session metaphor is good for video montage too, I would take Live and make it a Live Video killer app, a standalone one, but only after I have established Live dominance in the DAW arena.

I think not alot of people here understand what is meant by ´video support ´ and why it is usefull for alot of professionals and amateurs alike who like to work within the ableton live enviroment . . . .
It´s been said about 3 times in this thread already . . .
no one is asking for VIDEO editing functions
