Live 5.2b5 crash on iMac Intel 20" when using AU plugins

Post by Torsteink » Mon Mar 06, 2006 9:36 am

Hi!

I recently purchased an Intel Core Duo iMac 20". Seems to work well, but software is a bit limited. I purchased live 5 as well, but awating 5.2 I am using the beta 5.
Live is working pretty well, but every time I load an AU plugin the application crashes and os x gives me an error report. Has anybody experienced this problem?

Reproduce example: Start Live->Enable AU Plugins->Drag a AU plugin to audio effects. Crash. (Same for AU instruments)

Can you be more specific which plugin you used?
There are some AU's that'll bring any host to it's knees.

Sure.

There are not many intel plugs out there yet I believe. But I've tried all the plugs that are included with garageband. I also own Stylus RMX which has a beta out. All the plugs work in Garageband. I can also add that the machine has 1 GB of ram and I use a RME fireface. I am pretty new to a Mac, as I am running my studio on a PC.
I have tried Live 5.2b5 with the internal soundcard, and the FireFace, so it does not seem to be soundcard related. I have upgraded to the newest os x 10.4.5 (I believe)

Your plugins have most likely not been ported to the intel platform yet.
Watch their website's for progress on that. And make sure you always have the latest version of Live.
Very few plugins have been ported yet. But they're on the way.

Thanks for your reply!

All the plugins on my Mac should be ported. Garageband is included in iLife 06 which is intel (universial) as far as I know. The Stylus RMX plugin I installed is universial binary. So this means that universial binary AU plugins still crash live 5.2B5 on my Mac. I know this intel stuff is in its early phase.
When I add one AU plugin as ie an audio effects I can see the plugins GUI in a flash, before it all shuts down. I am not running PowerPC based plugins.

One interisting thing though, is that I installed Live 5 which run under rosetta. Performance was very poor, but it could load the stylus RMX plugin, and any other. I cannot speak for the other plugins, but the Stylus RMX version is universial. So I can load plugins in Live 5 under rosetta, but not under Live 5.2b5 which is universial.

I don't have an intel mac or stylus. But perhaps somebody who has both will shed some more light on this matter.
Meanwhile, contact [email protected] directly. These are the type of issues they're there for.

Cheers

I am on a MacBook Pro, and I have the same problem. All Apple Audio Units crash the program. Including iDrum, and all garageband effects.

I reported it to the beta email address. Audio Units worked fine in Beta 4. They are probably aware of it by now.

Nope. I wish the abes would chime in to let us know if this is a confirmed issue that will be fixed in the next build. Aparently they made support for Audio Units "More Robust" in this last beta build, but in doing so something else broke.

I have had problems loading any au in b5 as well.

I sent crash reports to ableton, but I'd like to chime in to see if I need to do anything further to help.

In case it was not mentioned...

-open live b5
-double click/drag/whatever any au to any audio/midi track

the result is an unexpected closure, or crash

reproducable 100%

imac 20/coreduo 2ghz
1.5 gig ram
motu traveler (latest driver and previous) 1.4/1.4.1

Hi folks,

on an IntelMac Live 5.2b5 will crash for every AU you drag in.
This will be fixed with the next beta. Sorry for the inconvenience.

regards,
/Alex
