Live does not support the numerical keypad?

Post by Wirebird » Thu Mar 09, 2006 6:58 am

I just bought a cheap USB numerical keypad to use as a control pad for Live, only to realize that the key map in Live does not support the numerical keypad. Is there a way around this or am I missing something? It would be sweet to be able to use this little pad for remote controlling of Live.
(Live 4.1.2 OSX)

Cheers

Thanks longjohns, I did a search before I posted and now I realize why I didn't find anything: It's written "keypad", not "key pad" :)

Found some posts now though, but still can't get it to work no matter how many times I press the num lock button.

Hm... after having tried just about everything now it seems that Live does not support the numerical keypad on OS X, as this does not function the same way as on Windows keyboards.

Anyone here controlling Live with the numerical keypad in OS X?

Works fine here in 5. When assigning a numeric keypad in keymap mode, you get an N in front of the key, like N1 for keymapping the 1 on the numeric keypad, N= for the equals sign, etc.

Perhaps it's not support in Live 4.

Thanks guys, then I don't have to investigate further. Yet another reason to upgrade then.

but is anyone sure that you can map an additional keypad, beyond the one built into the main keyboard? i thought that was the problem with the other guy, but i could be wrong on that.

Also, there is a difference between Win and OS X as the latter does not support/use Num Lock by default. It's either supported or not by applications.

Yes, for Windows, absolutely you can use a USB keypad, with the num lock on.

However, not all of the keys will be recognized (backspace, +, -, for example). Using Plogue Bidule's HID data extractor will allow you to get more keys out of the USB key pad and in turn map them to midi.

I don't have a Mac, can't tell you on that, but imho application-specific key support is one of those cases in which the Mac paradigm is stupid.
