NE Tipes for playing Live with a band...Drums, bass, guitars

Post by cbass » Mon Mar 27, 2006 2:47 pm

Im sitting in with a band that has two guitars, bass, drums and vocals... currently i have a key on my laptop set for tap tempo so i can set arpegios in sync with the drummer... i have a send on the mixer sending me vocals so i can loop/mangle them... id like to set some one shots and short loops on the trigger finger...

any other tricks for live playing with a live band???

im only using my korg ms2000, live, o2, and trigger finger now...

if you have the possibilty of recording your guys, play with loops you record from them
They will be astonished what a guitar can sound like through Grain Delay or Beat Repeat.
I personally have up to 4 audio tracks routed on 4 buses with different efx-settings.
some frequency or feedback assigned to some knobs + some oneshots...

and then you still have the korg for a solo?

for me the hardest problem was and still is to decide which parameter is important enough to be controlled.
the next problem is with which knob.

They have a huge pa and mackie 6 send mixer, but only run vocals through it, so that is what i have on 2 sends into live with a beat repeat and delay on it, sometimes they run an acustic guitar, but not on every song... thanks i will try to get them to run everything through the mixer, they aer just lazy drunks...

could you please keep me updated bout your progress?

I´ve been trying a likewise thing with bass and keys, but I had to play drums all the time and so often was confused which loop was running with which effect and so on.

Now I´m recording one track keys and one track bass at the max.
It´s always fine to have a bassline running and the bassman has his hands free for some percussion stuff...

What kind of music are you playing by the way?
