New RME Interface

Post by FORMAT » Sat Mar 25, 2006 8:44 pm

RME have just released info about their new interface, Fireface 400, smaller brother of the bigger one.

But at 900 €, seems a bit steep --- dont you think???....

900 euro is probably MSRP.
though if it is not... even still the Fireface800 is $1449-$1499 on the street.
great interfaces, great low latency drivers, and great converters.

This has me wondering if RME are going to drop PCMCIA altogether. 'Specially as the Macbooks don't have it...

That's hot, almost makes me think about trading-down my Fireface to get the bus-powered portability

Are any laptops capable of bus-powering such units though?

I sure want one, although I really wish they implemented this configuration in the PCMCIA line instead... Can't beat their zero-CPU load hardware.

BTW, where did you see this price quote?
Can't find it on RME's site. And do you know when they will start shipping it?

It has no midi. So you must take a midi-interface extra.

It does.

"A word clock input and output (BNC) plus two MIDI I/Os (breakout cable, 5-pin DIN) complete the analog/digital feature list and turn the Fireface 400 into an entire audio system of the highest quality."

But come to think of it, all my MIDI controllers these days are USB anyway...

In the press release:

"Available during May, the Fireface 400 will retail at a price below €900,-"
