pattern sequencer

Post by toeman » Tue Mar 28, 2006 12:47 pm

What I miss in ableton is a pattern sequencer, like te matrix pattern sequencer in reason....
For people (and there are many of them) who don't use external hardware it is very usefull!
For my music style a pattern sequencer with the option to "randomise" and "copy the pattern to the pianoroll" is very usefull....

So maybe for the next edition?

I'M talking about a new way to add this kind of pattern sequence as a new kind of clip in the Main channel out.

that would be great.especially when using a vst drum machine.would be a lot easier to arrange instead of recording.

A good step sequencer mode would be ideal, like the one in Sonar, it's brilliant, select step length and type in a pattern template (1011 gives note, rest, note, note then starts over for however many notes you play) then hack the keyboard until you got your track laid down, single notes or chords should be supported, this should simply be another record mode, normal or step mode, notes played gets stuck into pianoroll on the record enabled track, no need to copy anything.

I been hoping for that for a long time since it's a huge timesaver, I don't care much by now since I shelled out for SonicBytes ERA it does everything I need, but it would be great having this feature native in Live.

Agreed... SonicBytes ERA is a really good addition to Live.

I was going to buy a used Rs7000 to do what I can easily do with ERA, though a native step sequencer inside Live would be nice...

In regards to this post, i feel alot of these requests would be satiated if Live became VST like FL and Energy XT. Imagine being able to open Live within itself. 8O

I guess it isn't so hard work to implement a solid step sequencer.

Let us hope they will do it with the next live

What do you see as the main differences between a step sequencer and a midi clip? Isn't a midi clip just a pattern in a sequencer (the session view).

Kinda how I see it as well, just start with a row of 16th notes across a clip, then move notes up and down, that's the exact same thing as any step sequencer plugin, just represented so it looks like an old step sequencer, some has a few other options but it's basically the same thing.

A step sequence record mode is what I realy wanted, select step size and then record from keyboard + a pattern like 1011, 1 is a note, 0 is a rest, it's just so damn usefull and speeds up workflow so much.
