Drum machine using samples?
I'm sure they have something like this, but I don't work alot with 'fake' drums, so I don't know.
Do they have some kind of software based program that you program a beat into, but use files from your HD as the drum sounds?
Like if you record yourself beatboxing and make each drum sound into a sample, you could load them into your program, assign them to their respective drum tracks and play whatever patterns you wanted??

that would be the decay envelope right? Did you try switching it to gate and turning it all the way up to 20 seconds? That does the trick for me.the_planet wrote:Impulse does something really weird to the samples that I just can't describe. It's like there's some weird compression or something::mic-minimal:: wrote:how about Live 5
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.
you know I'm actually really loving Impluse lately - I was using Battery just for its factory presets, I use Microtonic so much I'm almost sick of it, and of late I've been just sticking to impulse - I havent been having issue with it but I've been having so much fun with the stretch and time settings and real time tweaking of them - I think it does alot for such a compact little beast
and I dont have any problem with the sound - try what machinate said

Nothing of course, in the context of Live. But it's not a banging beatbox like iDrum. And it only uses samples, and doesn't have the drum synthesis capabilities of RM IV or Microtonic. And it won't run outside Live.
Yes, you can use Operator to make drum sounds and sample them for use in Impulse. And yes, you can use ReWire to get your Impulse fix in Cubase and others. (I suppose - never tried.) So it's really down to what you like.

most of the samplers and drum programs mentioned will also run on the pc.rushofblood wrote:Hey guys, I told you I don't work with that kind of stuff, so I don't know the capabilities, but anyway I'm running windows, anything for that?
Is the stuff about using impulse like this in the manual, is that why I should know?
Battery
Stylus
and GURU are some that I have played with and like.
Microtonic is the bomb but it's all synthesized so you can't load samples.
I get a lot done in impulse. Even if I don't use it in the final I export the clips into another drum program and remap them so I can get it done quick and durty.

I'm going to, I just didn't know I could do that with it as I have pretty much ignored impulse, simpler, and operator until now, thinking I couldn't really do anything with them.the ar wrote:rushofblood, why don't you give impulse a try?
It's there, right out of the box, no need to download anything.
And it does exactly what you're looking for.
