Syncing a MOTU Traveler and an M-AUDIO Firewire Audiophile

Post by Schizophonix » Thu May 11, 2006 10:54 am

Hello,
recently we have set up a mini (4 square meters!!) home studio with my housemate and we are facing the following problem (apart from fitting all the machinery inside):
We want to sync our soundcards in order to jam together with Live. I use an M-AUDIO Firewire Audiophile and he uses a (tadan, tadaaaan!!) MOTU Traveler (for the priviledged ones). The Traveler is an amazing piece of gear, but can only be synced through AES/EBU, S/PDIF, Word Clock, SMPTE and ADAT while the Audiophile has good old 5-pin MIDI and S/PDIF. We tried syncing through S/PDIF but the system hangs and we have to restart both PCs.
It might be some settings problem, does anyone have any ideas/workarounds/alternatives? I know its pretty technical for this forum but I thought I would give it a try...

Any contributions appreciated...

Why don't you sync via Midi?

Set the appropriate ins and outs in live preferences, set one as master, then set the other as slave, and it should be good to go!

I've had no problem using midi to sync a motu traveller to a m-audio firewire 410 in the past :)

Are you familiar with how to set up sync in live in the preferences box?
