This is kind of unrelated to your original question, but I stumbled across this last night and found it very cool. Anyways, awhile back I downloaded electric sheep, which is a nifty screensaver that gets its content over the internet. You can download individual "sheep" via bittorrent, and it turns out that each one is just a small mpg file. They would be perfect if you're just getting started as a VJ, because you can easily download a ton of pre-cut, pretty cool (IMO, anyways) video files and mix with them.

Anyways, just a thought. :)

I like these:

Quite experimental manipulations of simple video. Love it. The music's not good, imo, but the video is brilliant.

This guy does these videos live with a wacom board. Gotta love that.

A fantastic exaple of cool VJ work is on the DJ Shadow "Live! In Tune and On Time" DVD. THey backed him up on his tour and the VJ stuff is featured on the disc. WAY good stuff that they played behind him...
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.
