1 GB vs 1.2 GB
How bad is it to put 2 ram sticks of different capacity in a comp, say 1GB and 1 256 MB sticks. If there's a problem, what causes it?

I thought matching memory went out with the ark, now the matching is done on the memory card surely.
my lappie has Sodimm memory, Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module.
before dimm memory (SIMM memory - single in line) I had to match memory sticks, now I don't bother.
my laptop has a gig stick and a 512 stick, both at the same speed, etc. obviously.
<edit>#
I had to check I wan't mad ... I'm not

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIMMthe main difference between SIMMs and DIMMs is that SIMMs have a 32-bit data path, while DIMMs have a 64-bit data path. Since Intel's Pentium has (as do several other processors) a 64-bit bus width, it required SIMMs installed in matched pairs in order to use them.

good question. How difficult would it be for you to try a Live set both ways (with and without the xtra ram) and monitor the CPU at different times in your set. I am curious about this one.rbmonosylabik wrote: I still wonder if it would be better to remove the 256 MB stick and wait until I can put another 1 GB in.
