That's too funny

registration, someone's having problems

you get your computer id, unlock via the web and bam - it takes like 15 seconds

I've installed and reinstalled Live on several computers with ease

Curious?
you obviously haven't done this three times yet or you would have to contact ableton via email. or you have a mac and there's a work around or you have restore discs that keep the same install id as previously stated.

also, let me make clear for the fourth time in this thread...i do not wish ableton to change their system because of me. i am merely opening for discussion problems like mine that hinder the use of their product. i simply believed prior to posting that more people were having this issue. i was wrong, but could not have known that before this thread. and i am not the only person to start a thread on this issue. i have found at least one or two other threads regarding this. so though i am in the minority, i really am not the only loon or idiot.
the fact is out of all the software i own, ableton is the only software i've had this problem with, so i thought it was worth documenting on this forum.

Then when I have to reinstall, I simply copy the unlock.cfg file to the location where it is needed and of I go.

Obviously this would only work for one specific machine.
i use windows xp. i have tried your method and it does not work. are you using a microsoft disc or a manufacturer's restore disc. i think that is the difference.

backpedal city. your first post was not about discussion, it was about blaming someone else for a problem you created.

i am not backpedalling. if you read the original post, you can see i actually asked what everyone thought about the copy protection at the end. i admit, coming on strong and being fustrated. but i did ask what peoples opinions were and did want a discussion on the issue, if not for anything else, to find out how consistant or rare the problem is. i asked ableton but they would not reply, which is why i always have to cringe every time i ask for a new unlock. i was hoping to talk with some poeple with the same problem...

people with the same problem? you don't think it's normal to wipe your hd every other week, do you? did you really think there was going to be a chorus of people saying, 'yeah! i reinstall my os twice a month, too! i had the same problem!' i mean, honestly. your first post was a bitchfest, plain and simple. tacking on a 'what does everyone else think?' at the end of that doesn't really serve a purpose, you already showed that you didn't want to hear what anyone else thought, you were pissed and you wanted blood.

also, i created no problem myself. re-installing windows once a month is how i work and is not a problem unless you have a software company make it one. ableton has no right to force me to change my method. it works well for me. like i said, if i would have been more clear on the type of copy protection ableton uses, i would not have bought the product. i honestly thought (as many in this thread still believe) that the unlock key was solely based on hardware. that i could save this key and always use it on my same computer, indefinitely. the unlock limitations stated on the website didn't mean much to me, because that's how i thought it worked. it seems reasonable to be able to back up your unlock key for your specific computer in case of major problems on my end or ableton. this is what i am complaining about. so stop making it seem like i am completely unreasonable. i have already said i don't mind copy protection and i don't mind ableton defending their hard work. i am an honest customer who only wanted an unlock key for my specific computer and that computer alone so that when it's night, or weekend or holiday or ableton's website is down or i am not near an internet connection or nuclear winter or whatever...i am still assured access to the software i paid for. this is just not unreasonable. i am sorry it has been so much trouble for people to understand and accept it as a valid opinion without calling me names, degrading me and questioning my ability to think. forums are for discussion, not insults.

not true, man. and i don't wipe my drive every other week. it is more like every month or so. i had some real hardware problems when i first bought my computer which is why the number 10 is slightly higher than normal for me (i also owned live closer to 8 months by the time i recieved that email, if you really want to bust my balls about it)...not that i need to explain that to you. and like i said. i'm not the first person to post about this. so i did expect some like minded people to post. i think i've handled all of your attacks pretty well and i consider myself open minded to the reasons ableton uses this style protection and to posts that aren't plainly insulting with differing opinion. i obviously wanted to get set straight or i would not have begun this.

dear aletbon

I regularly set fire to my eyes as part of my working practice

after doing this with INDUSTRY STANDARD lighter fluid I find I can no longer see your program. WHAT are you going to DO ABOUT THIS !!!

I find any insinuation that I should change MY CHOSEN PRACTICE of setting fire to my eyes, well, it's un constitutional, wrong and bad.
It is my choice to set fire to my eyes and I have paid money for your program and now you make me unable to see it by your insistance on not making the interface work too good for people with charcoal for eyes.

which is my choice , so fix it

funny...but not quite the same thing. windows isn't hardwired to your machine like your eyes to your head. it's software. soft...should be plyable and easilly manipulated. that's the beauty of software.
