Multiple computers, single copy?
Y'all,
I'm not yet a Live owner, although I'm considering purchasing it as my gigging solution - fantastic program.
My question is regarding the copy protection system. From reading the description, it seems that a single licensed copy can only be run on a single computer. Is this true? My plan was to buy a copy, assemble sets on my desktop machine and then dump the samples/Live file over to my laptop machine for road use. Would this really require two licensed copies?
Thanks,
Dennis DeSantis

got two systems, use one at a time
Hi,
I know what you meen, now i'm migrating from my old mac to a new G4, so i need a new Unlock Key.
Need only one License (a real serial number).
For those situations there is the posibility to ask Ableton for a second Unlock Key.
Or search the internet for a Keygenerator. (oops)
(A Keygenerator creates the Unlock Key using a Challenge key, wich is generated by Live, using the serial number.)

There is nothing wrong with me, is there?
Hi auxx,
Well i heard some rumours, about something... but don't know if it's realy true.
Well, some people arranged to got rid of the windows XP algoritme, so other populair programs will folow soon?
But don't forget, you need a serial number, and nobody gets mine, buy your own copy of Live is my message!
Run it on you desktop or on your laptop, a dongle would be handy. And now we are back in the copyprotection discussion.
But don't forget to enjoy the music

it's fine...
i bought Live last week and have since installed it on both my iBook and Powerbook and that was a different unlock code for every time. that's 4 installs total! i am a registered owner and can install it on as many of MY machines as i please. you just have to get a new code every time. same way as you got the first one. connect to the ableton site and get it. alot of software is this way now. it's perfectly normal.
odd policy

this is very common and most users do it.Dennis DeSantis wrote: My plan was to buy a copy, assemble sets on my desktop machine and then dump the samples/Live file over to my laptop machine for road use. Would this really require two licensed copies?
I have a copy of Live installed on my desktop and the same one installed on my laptop, well it's the same serial anyway.
You dont need two licenses or to do anything hard. Just install them as normal.
If you try and activate a third copy you have to get in touch with Ableton, simply to verify that it really is you. Like a credit card company they are covering YOUR ass as well as their own - I'm sure you wouldn't be pleased if someone was installing your copy somewhere!
They usually allow a reasonable amount of activations on the same serial. Ten in 6 months is the current record.
