Why does input device have to be the same as output device?

Post by wrees » Fri Dec 26, 2003 12:51 am

Using Live 3.0.1 on Panther.
Using an Edirol UA-5 in advanced mode with the advanced driver.
I want to use the UA-5 as my input device ONLY and I want to use the laptop's built-in headphone jack as my output device.
In Live's Audio prefs, I select Built-In audio as my output device.
I then try to select the UA-5 as my input device. I select it in the drop-down list, but it keeps going back to no device. I can select Built-In as my input device and it works fine.
If I select the UA-5 as my output device, I can select the UA-5 as the output device just fine. but then I cannot select the Built-In audio as my inpout device.

In short, Live will not let me select an input device that is different than my selected output device. Why is that?

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks,

Will

Also in Panther, using an iBook... and I'm quite sure I've done just that...

Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.
