Hardware step sequencer

Post by aufloesung » Mon Jul 17, 2006 11:49 pm

Does anybody know a hardware step sequencer to work with Live and running LEDs or something?

I guess I have to sell some more records to be able to afford that.

Have a look at this little masterpiece:

monome.org

Especially the video: http://monome.org/media/monome40h.mov

Looks super practical!

Check out the Sequentix P3 - it was reviewed in the June Sound On Sound and looks pretty cool - it's £500.

the Machinedrum and Monomachine from Elektron have the best sequencers i've ever seen, although a bit pricey. on the cheaper tip you could pick up a Korg Electribe for like $50 these days or an old MC303 or something.

Another vote for the Sequentix P3. I have one and its changed the way I write music. Much like Ableton Live then...

And with the two put together; its a dream come true.

Yes - I think the Monome is the best contender for a step sequencer these days. It's a pity that you need to spend 1000$ to get an 8x16 step thing going, though. Let's see how much the bigger 100h is going to cost...

It most definitely isn't vapour-ware - Click around their (horrible) website, and you 'll see plenty of real-life pics. Its best feature is that there are (afaik) no menus at all, everything is accessed directly from the front panel.

it wasn't mass-produced. But the maker went on to do the Monome... check out their website, the app for Monome includes much of the same functionality (albeit only 1/4th the number of buttons.)

the 100h will have the same 16x16 layout as the Box.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

i use a Korg EA-1 for it, works absolut perfect and you can score them used for next to nothing. and all 16steps are fully and bright illuminated.
plus it comes with a nice synth, if you are into 303 type acid sounds.

the nord modular g2 has many modules that you can combine in a fun way to create very useful sequencers. And it's also a great synth.
