Live/3.0+3.0.1 issue when Quiting

Post by equinoxworld » Sat Jan 03, 2004 6:30 pm

Running: Mac OS 10.2.6
G4 dual 1.25
2g Ram
Been running Live since 1.5
this issue began with v3
this issue first showed up with Live 3.0 and is still happening w/ 3.0.1
When closing (quiting) > the message
"The application Live has unexpectedly quit.
The system and other applications have not been affected"

When I first installed 3.0.1 it stopped doing this then after a couple runs it started again.
I've typically saved already by that point and everything seems to save ok and reopen ok.

However- Related issue- (yet much more problematic)- is when Live randomly crashes in the middle of working on a song. The new recovery feature helps somewhat when this happens- yet more often then not there is something I've been laboring over that has not yet made into the undo history that is lost . I have not been able to see a consistant thread of what may causeing this.
I realize it may be plugin related yet all the plugins I'm using seem to be functioning ok.
:?: So anyone else experiencing this sort of thing
Help greatly appreciated...
Is this a Live bug issue ??

Peace,
RH

Is there a VST plug-in you're using when the app crashes?

Can you temporarily move all your VST plug-ins out of the plug-in folder (/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST) to a temporary holding folder and see if Live's stability improves?

You might also try emailing your crash log to Ableton support (support@ableton.com).

Try removing all 3rd party plugins and watching the behaviour of Live then within your system. Even point Live to a null/empty vstplugin folder for the experiment.

If the exit crash disappears then you know where the problem lies with that problem, similar with the other problem you mention . Then introduce plugins into the folder, and Live, that you are using at the moment until the problem (hopefully) reappears.

Binary chop the problem and try to get a feel for what is causing it within your system where others are not in theirs. This gives you more ammunition to fire at Ableton if you draw a blank,

thank you folks for the ideas and suggestions. I will expolre them definitly...

Although I've been on OS X for quite some time, I haven't had to deal with much of anything for system issues or the like...
So

A basic explaination of what you are speaking would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Alex,
I am not familiar with how one retrieves the crash log files...

How can I find out about this??

Thanks,
RH

It means eliminate what it isn't to give yourself more of an idea what it is. Quite obvious really.

Go to your user folder and then dig into:

Library -> Logs -> CrashReporter

There should be a file in here called "Live.crash.log".

The file gives Ableton some clues about the circumstances which cause their program to crash.

So far...
It seem to be a problem with VST plugs
and in one in particular :(
>>Supatriga-- which I first learned of this plug thru a post (here) on this forum.
and which I've been using alot since v3 came out
:?:
Anyone else on 10.2.6 and Live v3 and or v3.0.1 ; using Supatriga.??
Any issues?

I think also there may be a coralation to more serious Live >>crashing...
when I started using  Supaphaser

I need to do some more testing tonight.

More feedback and ideas very much be  appreciated.

thanks,
RH

Try downloading a demo of Tracktion to test Supatriga:

This hosts VST effects and instruments.

If Supatriga does not work in Tracktion, then email the developers of Supatriga with a bug report.

If Supatriga works in Tracktion, but not in Live, then you know by process of elimination that there is a problem with Live.

At this point, send an email to Ableton: support@ableton.com asking them to fix the bug in Live.

Describe your setup with as many details as possible: your OS and version, audio adapter, plug-in causing the problem, version of plug-in, attach the crash log entry specific to Live, etc.

Then it is on Ableton to fix their product.
