Help with getting a USB Hub for a MacBook

Hi guys,
I'm looking for the USB Hub (that works!) for my Macbook to connect an external USB drive and my MIDI controller (Edirol PCR-1)

I have a Sitecom USB 4 port i was using with my DELL but getting nothing using it with the Mac.

Does the Edirol need to be plugged in directly cause it's got an audio interface built in?
How about the external USB drive?

Would be great if someone could post something that defo works for the Mac.

Right I got no experience in this but I have read loads of times not to use USB HDD and MIDI with Hubs?

What's everyone saying?

no idea about the specific echo needs, in terms of 'built in USB' connex or not, but i have very good experiences with BELKIN powered USB hubs on Macs, they never let me down. (running HDs and controllers with no hussle in many different configurations, soundcard i always only used Firewire, so no idea about that)

I used a FW 410 and that's going via firewire too - so no probs here.

I might give the Belkin a go then - will try to find a shop with a decent return policy.

I've had no problems running midi over a hub but I would not run an HD over one.

I've found that hubs seem to slow usb2 devices down to usb1.
Also they really dont like it if you connect a usb1 device and a usb2 device.
Might just be my cheap model though.

hmmm...

i need to connect KORE + a USB Drive + a MIDI controller to a 2 port Macbook.

Surely I'm not re-inventing computer music setup and many others have similar requirements?

Is a hub the solution or are there other more reliable gadgets out there?
