How many sequencers do you use?

I think I still prefer Sonar for multi-tracking, and for final mixing/mastering. But Live has been inspiring my creativity in ways Sonar never could. So each has their purpose. =)

Indeed , And I'm not quite ready to give up on Sonar - let's see what version 6 of that brings next month, too

Just curious. In my own studio I use Digital Performer for all my basic tracks (Drums, bass, guitar, vox) and I use Live as basically my sampler/keyboard/sound design tool. But I work at 3 other studios so I have had to learn Nuendo, Pro Tools, and soon Logic Pro. The biggest pain in the ass is trying to remember all the key commands.

That's really interesting --- what do you think of DP? I like it because of some of the midi/scoring features that aren't in Live, but the work flow is entirely different.
I got DP because I needed that stuff and Logic was so expensive. I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say about those sequencers.

I Love DP and have been using it for 5 years. Everytime Live comes out with a new version, I think to myself, "Looks like I won't be using DP anymore". But I keep coming back to it. The workflow is different but I like the things it does.

DP has an option with the sciccors tool that I really like. I can hold down APPLE (or maybe it's Option or maybe it's Shift) while dragging the scissors tool across the waveform and it will cut the waveform to whatever grid I have it set to. For instance, I could have it set to 16th notes and drag the scissors tool and it will chop up the wave form in 16th notes a lot faster that I could chop up in Live using APPLE+E.

Also, I like mixing in DP because it feels more "traditional to me. Live brings out my Artist/Producer side and DP makes me put on my Engineer hat. And I think you need both if you are a one man wrecking crew. But I Rewire Live through DP now as default so I can do anything I want and I don't feel like I need anything else......Well, maybe "Tab to Transient" from Pro Tools.....and maybe the way Nuendo does automatic crossfading on editing.......

I use Cubase SX1 & my Akai MPC.... the MPC just gets used for drum programing.. but for the last year SX1 has been used as an WAV>MP3 convertor

Wish Live would support AUs in Rewire slave mode, then my sequencer world would be perfect.

Gave up on the Sonar beast a while back...

That leaves me with just two. Now it's just Live + hardware sequencing on my XL-7.

Still fire up FL Studio to use the step sequencer and bang out some drum loops now and again tho.

Hate to sound like a broken record but... Live and Logic.
Been trying to make it all good with just one (you know which one), but just can't quite yet. I hate that everything sounds so damn good in logic.....

edit: oh ya, got reason too, but not sure why...... I think maybe for teaching.... I like the sound actually, but.... damn cables....
