But in the context of MIDI controllers, does it make the MS-20 controller any different from other products? Can you avoid said stepping by using another controller?zsazsa wrote:It depends on the sound but e.g. try the preset sound wobble synth. If I play with the LPF cutoff i can clearly hear stepping. Just try a slow sweep.krank wrote:
But what's that about the 128 steps being audible?
Definitely a reason to substiute midi and buy old analog gear with CV and real pots.
Korg Legacy Collection - MS20 Controller
I just tried the VMS-20 standalone. Same result. So it doesn't have anything to do with Live.Poster wrote: ??? I always thought it has something to do with Live's CC recording resolution..
For instance when you record CC automation it has a terrible treshold..
I never hear any stepping with Reaktor ??
Agreed with the hardware comment
Reaktor handles controllers differently, I think. Don't have it, so
But since Reaktor also supports OSC it must have a higher internal resolution.
I also believe the BCR-2000 has something like 14 bit midi, this should make the resolution a lot better? Does anyone have experience with this? There is an option for this in the cc assign mode box.
And you can still draw your envelopes, at least linear slopes, no curves. That would be a nice feature too.
By the way, Poster, what kind of music do you do? I think I need people to work/ compete with. Might make me more productive than just hanging on the forum whilst being on holiday.
So no plug and play i guess. Crap.zsazsa wrote:it does mean you have to assign every knob by hand. I posted somewhere if anybody had a decent solution for this but nothing came up.
I put a vms-20 in my template with the assignments.
AFAIK in Cubase you can plug the Controller in and you are set. Why is Ableton unable to do the same?
Well, call me a noob, but i find it really annoying, that a DAW like Live is not able to deliver this. Well i guess i will switch to Cubase in the next time, cause i am planning to buy a new masterkeyboard and other controllers and the midi implementation in Live is pretty sucky compared to Cubase.zsazsa wrote:I guess they need to make an automap for it. Or am I way off here?

The controller is hardwired to certain CCs - these are also in the VST itself unless you change it. Cutoff is CC 74 for example. Just put your track to monitor in and hook up an instance of MS-20. Play and twist the knobs. No probs!
If you're talking about Live's native midi mapping - no the controller doesn't work as a remote in that way. But I don't think that should be expected.

Ok, that helps alot. To get it clear:Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:What are you guys talking about?mon0 wrote:So no plug and play i guess. Crap.zsazsa wrote:it does mean you have to assign every knob by hand. I posted somewhere if anybody had a decent solution for this but nothing came up.

I will connect the Controller via USB and i can control the MS-20 without tweaking around, right?

Yep! Make sure you have the Legacy controller as your midi input, though.mon0 wrote:Ok, that helps alot. To get it clear:Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:What are you guys talking about?mon0 wrote: So no plug and play i guess. Crap.

Is it possible to have 2 Midi Inputs at the same time, i.e. one masterkeyboard and the ms-20 controller besides that?
I know, that's why I'm asking. I don't really have a style yet. But it would be nice to meet up.Poster wrote:Electro(nisch).. vooral in de IDM hoek..zsazsa wrote:

En ook uit Utrecht trouwens
I dont' want to put my email on the forum, so how can we keep in touch?

In that case you'll have to set midi input to All. But, yes!mon0 wrote:Thanx man. One last question:Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:Yep! Make sure you have the Legacy controller as your midi input, though.mon0 wrote: Ok, that helps alot. To get it clear:

You're so right. Man, I probably didn't have monitor on, or whatever. This makes my life a lot easier.Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:
