That's not all that Beck ripped off. I don't know how anyone who has ever listened to Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire du Melody Nelson could think that Sea Change is a great album.

So many to choose from. These may not be the best, but here's five that mean a lot to me personally (chronological order):

Nirvana - Nevermind (made me buy a guitar, along with Pearl Jam's Ten, but that never really stood the test of time and has no street cred).
Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman (the perfect album?)
Leftfield - Leftism (this and dubnobass, first year university where I discovered decent dance music existed)
Royksopp - Melody AM (part of my soundtrack to travelling in SE Asia)
Simple Kid - One (so much good dance music in the last few years, but I often come back to this to listen to some real songs)

Really struggled with that. Could spend another two pages listing things I would have liked to include- Portishead, FSOL, oh god - Radiohead....Ahhhh!

That's not quite the spirit of the thread. I mean, music taste is subjective and tastes swing wildly from one person to the next. This was more about the idea of compiling a list that reflects the preferences of the forum members, not to debunk or impugn their suggestions.

As it stands though, I'll check this out if I find it and if I think it sucks you'll be the first to know. ;) j/k

Yeah, I know. I couldn't resist

Here are five of my favorites (though I'd never suggest these are the greatest of all time).

Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
Tago Mago - Can
Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
On the Corner - Miles Davis
There's a Riot Goin On - Sly & the Family Stone

There might be many albums that I like better at any given moment but these are five that I can never tire of.

or maybe it's a straight up sp record? cleanse fold and manipulate? bites?

MBM 99%?
