CDJ's or Vinyl

Post by lesterdiamond » Wed Sep 13, 2006 12:54 pm

I think that CDJ's are way better than vinyl, I think that vinyl/ turntable will eventually be replaced by the CD turntable. Just wondering what other DJ's thinking, and a little curious as to how many vinyl purists are still out there.

IMO, they're both dinosaurs on the way out, especially for those who want to do more than play someone else's tunes (turntablists excepted).

That's not to say there won't be a nostalgic market for them. My Grandpa still plays his old 78s!

I use CDJs and Live. But I don't see vinyl going anywhere in a hurry. The likes of Final Scratch are more likely (than CDJs) to replace vinyl than, in my opinion...

They're slowly doing it here in chicago, a lot of clubs have CDJs nextt o mixer now, and the 1200's are out to the side.

The CDJ's life is dependant on the lifespan of CDs themselves.

Their days are numbered.

vinyl forever

Post by johny_bhoy » Wed Sep 13, 2006 2:14 pm

CDJs or vinyl?????hahahaha

Vinyl forever man!!!!! Technics started this whole thing!

if you have never used them than youll never understand!

CDJs have obvious advantages, free mp3 cd's and clear sound over time! bpm counts and digital cues.

Vinyl is oldschool and thye diference for me is manual labour! with vinyl its about skill and not how much you pay for added extras!

ableton is a savage piece of software and is fun to mix with and play with! but like cdjs i dont get the same buzz from anything but my decks!!!!!

oh heres the science!!! laff if you want VINYL SOUNDS BETTER!!!!!

its scientifically proven that the sound of vinyl is better than cds! coz cds are digiatl (normally a good thing) when digitizing analog audio like a bands performance you loose some analog noises which take away from the recording!

yes vinyl ages fast and may sound crap if old damaged or overplayed, but you cook a fresh piece of vinyl on a smoking hot technics deck and booooom!

I have done the live dj thing with clips and such. But the biggest reason I love DJing the more conventional way is that there is no work or preparation warping etc, I would probably look at the subject from a different angle if I could afford the Pioneer DJM-800.

The money for me is huge, I've spent a rediculous amount of money on vinyl, even when buying mp3's legally you can get 5-6 tunes for the price of one piece of vinyl.

Does anyone know how the Pioneer DVD turntable sounds in relation to the CDJ's? Could this technology or something similar render vinyl obselete.

What up Lester - I got your zip just been busy

but on the topic

This is right on the money with me right now

I'm moving into a new spot and I've been thinking, do I really want to haul my turntables and 40 million records from my house to my new spot?

Do I still want to mix on vinyl or go digital - download all my favorite tracks and be all 2007? Yes I do...I think mixing on CD Decks is fun and it's alot cheaper to buy tunes via download

BUT, the reality is CD-J's are expensive - $700 - $800 for the pioneers one level under the big club 1000's and I need a PAIR so that's $1400 to $1600 for a set of CD decks (ouch)

As much as I want some CD decks I think I'm going to be practical and stick with my Technic's <-- mind you I can't and never will sell my technics -

Maybe I'll buy one CD Deck off Craigslist and then maybe another one when I save up a little more cheddar

It's good to keep your hands in a little bit of everything that way you don't show up to the gig and be like

er, what's that...

Adonis,

I've seen the cdj-800's (no mp3 cd compatability, the newer mk2's have it) for a pretty affordable price, you can grab a used pair in great shape off ebay for under a g-bone.

Or you could get the CDJ-800 MK2's for 1200 new

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... category0=

I guess they're a little expensive at fist but I believe they are well worth it in the long run.

what about turntablists?? i dont think theyll die out.. Instead they will keep vinyl alive!

and besides blending with cd players is awkward.. You cant really touch the groove you know.

In the world of techno and house all the big jocks are rocking huge parties with CDJ's only

My dream set up woud be 2 CDJ 800's a nice little allen and heath mixer 3 channel and 1 technic 1200 for records and sampling

^^^^ how much do you think that would cost?

not to mention a sleek table or desk to house the set up

A

thanks for the link Lester! I didn't know I could come up on CDJ 800s for under $600 maybe 2 for a grand

The I guess vinyl is dying in the world of house and techno, or is not feeling too hot.
