i do a fair amount of mp3 djing, and have got my entire CD collection on my computer, the last thing i wanna do is convert all these to aiffs, filling up my drive in a matter of seconds.. i don't mind doing warp markers, but space is important..
Also, and this would be very usefull, would be the ability to asign multiple, switchable, 'soft' loop points, for clips, you could flick through on the fly, both allowing the play head to continue until it enters the new loop range, or to jump to it at the next global quantisation point.
Also in Session view i would like to be able to hit record, and improvise on a certain part (say playing notes along a keyboard), and have the parts auto consolidated, and reimported into session view, so i could keep playing, with my new part playing, similar to the auto loop feature in logic

The mp3 is a great idea for those who play large files in a DJ like style. I contacted Ableton about this once, and at the time it was a lisencing issue apparently - to use mp3, they would have to pay a bundle of money to the developers, thus driving up the price to the user. BUT, I would pay extra for this feature. Certainly.
Switchable loop points would be nice, but why not just set up two clips of the same sample with different loop markers, in the same track? Triggering new clips in the session view is a one button press process, and it's already a working system.

yeah i would also pay a supplement for mp3 import, but i can't believe the cost can be that much.. it may have something to do with compression and recompression of mp3 on the fly being a cpu hog.. still perhaps all mp3 files would default to load into ram (being only small) and then manipulation should be no probs for most modern cpus..
as far as loop points go, yes this is how i work at the moment, copying multiple clips into different slots with different loop points, but once youve got quite a few clips and alternative parts in there it starts to fill up session view dramatically.. it'd just be a neater way of doing it in my view.

I am really missing mp3 import, particularly for those 'listen to this weird bootleg i've found, i must play this out tonight' moments.. even if Live had the kind of mp3 import that say Logic has (it converts to Aiff for you), that would be an improvement on none at all.. i think Ableton must have a deal with the likes of Lacie, to help it to sell bigger drives!!!

No doubt about that! I personally filled up a 60 gig HD with VERY few applications and mostly AIFF files - samples, whole tracks, 7 minute long bass progressions in 24 bit, etc. Live ammo, so to speak. I got a 260 GB firewire drive (lacie) - that's getting filled too now. I gotta do some house cleaning soon...nobbystylus wrote: i think Ableton must have a deal with the likes of Lacie, to help it to sell bigger drives!!!
