Purchase advice: Mac Book Pro any better for Live?
Purchase advice: Mac Book Pro any better for Live?
hi ,
contemplating bying MacBook Pro but doubt
if it will work well with Live 5.2 and Reason?
on my iBook G4 1Mhz i can run Live ( 2 tracks) and Reason Rewired ( Instruments) almost on the limit of my CPU, have few sound dropouts
when play Reason Sampler intencively on my Korg Kontrol 49..
Will switching to Intel MacBook Pro give me me more stability and power?
any real life opinions, any issues ?
ciao - milka

Professional Shark Jumper.
Of course, that will mean nothing to you unless you actually have a use for the extra power. More tracks, more effects, for example. Otherwise, your track will still pretty much play at the same BPM and audio quality as on the older machine, so more power does nothing for you there, right? [I'm asking everybody, that is].yourmom wrote:you should see literally 10x the performance you are getting now with an intel mbp.
If you don't need that, why not stick with what works?
Yes go for it.
I have beter performance with macbookpro than my old G4 powerbook 1.5Ghz.Live version 5.2.2.
I am waiting Live6 for multicore support (':D')

well i am a bit scared to upgrade - stability is n1 priority for me when onstage...apfEID wrote:it should provide an absolutely huge increase in power, especially if you upgrade to live 6 (multi-core support)
so i would wait till 6 will be tested anough,
for now 5 works fine.
to go Intel or to stay G4 is a dillema still..

what exactly you do notice in terms of performance improvement on Intel MacBookPro + Live ?
Are there any annoying issues, crashes, hardware probs you came across so far?

I got a MacBook, rather than MacBook Pro... the Beta's open my files and use half the CPU they did in 5.2.2 My advice is buy a MacBook and max it out with 2GB RAM rather than the pro. performance on both machines is the same for the 2ghz versions. Also, I quite like the plastic casing rather than the aluminium... id don't dent when gigging!
