I cycle everywhere with my mac in my bag, and I've come off my bike several times and landed on my laptop.(ok, I'm not the nimblist of peeps) but other than scuff marks, the thing is fine.

That's right, it cracks...
what do u mean "it cracks"? i have an Ibook g4 white plastic, had to open it once
to replace HD - it is extremely fragile believe me.
I had an impression that aluminium cases are more sturdy?
maybe i am wrong?

I've never seen a cracked MacBook or iBook... I've used these for playing Live and Vjijng for years. I've seen a great deal of dented and mangled powerbooks in my time though. The Aluminium material tends to absorb the impact. And how many guys with aluminium laptops have the corners dented on their machines.. These comments are just my personal observations.

well i had to check in my white plastic iBook in my samsonite suitcase due to London security paranoya recentely ..
and when i got it back the CD whole on a side was bent!
so i cannot use CD's anymore :(

actually right now trying to open it up and straighten the cheap aluminium frame inside...donno if it would work though..
its a hell of a gob.

So i am not fond of a plastic case... but maybe the aluminium is the same?

I have beter performance with macbookpro than my old G4 powerbook 1.5Ghz.Live version 5.2.2.
I am waiting Live6 for multicore support (':D')

what exactly you do notice in terms of performance improvement on Intel MacBookPro + Live ?

Are there any annoying issues, crashes, hardware probs you came across so far?
No No runs very very good.Have a look at Adam Jay's Live 5 performance test first. This is what i mean.
I had some projects on my old G4 powerbook 1.5Ghz and the CPU was like 50%70% now on my macbook pro is like 30%.This is what i mean.
Get a macbook or pro.
Enjoy.

thanks sounds promising :)

are the macbook 2Mhz and macbook pro 2Mhz really that similar in performance?

the battery live claims are 6hours on macbook and 4.5 macbook pro - whats the reality?

Video is shared memory on macbook vs. dedicated on macbook pro - is that important in Audio case?

the price leap is huuge and i kinda like the small screen portability, but what are

the real benefits of a 15inch versus macbook pro?

any thoughs?

Heat on the outside is good. Because then the heat is not on the inside...
You really want a heat conductor as case, not an insulator. Aluminum allows the inside to cool off, where plastic can trap the heat inside.

I just went from my old iBook G4 0.8Ghz with one G ram to a 17" iMac I Got for 900$ because it was the store demo model and I literally have 15x the power i had before. I haven't even upgraded the RAM on the iMac yet.

sure dont like to burn my hands ;) what worries me is that its a first generation
of a new Apple hardware and as i have learned in 10 years being Apple buyer -
in the next incarnation that might come right after the xmas Apple will resolve alot of
issues with its hardware?
they say - never buy a chrismas Apple ;) ... could be true this time?
