macbook/macbook pro stable?

Post by frugalpole » Mon Oct 02, 2006 10:54 pm

ok. i've been rolling a ppc powerbook for the last 4 years live running live. and i have never had a single hickup. not one. stable. stable. stable.

well...

i need a new machine. and the macbook is the best canidate. my interest is who is using either of these machines w/ live, live ... and if it is stable. seems pretty simple.

i know this may seem a bit pedantic, but... it's a valid concern.

if you searched on this forums you could already get many answers, actually i'd not reccomend anyone to buy a macbook, due to many problems that jumped out lately with both models.

I think this poll doesn't make sense for now, since a macbook could be stable, untill it works(RSS)

even on youtube you find videos of macbooks shutting down , even in the apple's stores

if you seen the Apple's AD about Reboot , i would not trust it anymore :D

I bought my macbook pro 1 month ago and no problems at all...It's very stable, I'm running Live ...live... for hours, and, even , I've let it running for as much as 20 hours without problem...no crashes,no freezes,no shut downs, etc. I'm very happy with it. :D it's a great machine

Same here! I've had mine since July and not a single problem. Did a 9 hour set at my friends party Saturday night with no problems. To be fair, my MacBook Pro has only 2 jobs, Live and graduate school papers. So, I dont exactly beat the hell out of it or anything.

indeed yours are young and running fine, but...
the Random Shutdown Syndrome seem to be affecting also after 2-3-4 months of use! not just out of the box!

i think if the apple's forums are so plagued by discussions about it there gotta be some serious reason

LOL yesterday i was showing those links to a good friend, wich bought a macbook months ago, and before he had seen the links he said to me : "oh mine is away for repairs since a month"

he's a pc guy, so he doesn't misses it that much..
then i asked, what was the problem?

It just was turning off at random..

I have a 5 month old MB Pro. And I have 2 recurring problems...this happens EVERYTIME I use it:

1) When opening a new set in Live 6.1 it will crash it everytime. It runs PERFECTLY when using it...low CPU etc, but try to start a new set and CRASH-OLA.

2) Doesn't really shut down when I shut down...the screen goes off, but the USB connectors still are live and I then have to hold power button for 10-15 sec to get a true shut down.

My GUT feeling is that Apple has lowered their production standards , or us MAC users have taken a giant leap into the f'ed up World of PCs via Intel chips.

my mbp is quite stable. BUT I'm having some issues with live and v-station (most probably an issue with live 6 and v-station themselves and not with the computer... hopefully)

I'm typing this in on a linux machine. Given the tweaking you have to do with linux (which is OK if you have the time) Linux is the last OS I'd like to use for a Live performance.

Gimme OSX anyday.

btw. there appears to be a recall on MB logic boards, as of week 37 all MBs have new logic boards that don't have the RSS problem.

My workmate got this info from apple when his MB died of the RSS prob.
