Synth advice sil vous plais!
Hey up,
I've stored up some cash to squander on a synth. I'm happy with Operator but I'm going for a no-laptop live show, so considering either a juno or an ms2000.
Can anyone give me any advice/a comparison please? I'm into wheezy, natural sounds, heavy bass, spacey pads.
Not too much of a dance music kind of synth, more William Basinski/Tangerine Dream.
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Re: Synth advice sil vous plais!
which Juno are you talking about? an oldie or the new Juno G?
about the the ms2000;
if you want high poly Tangerine Dream pad stuff the ms2000 is a bad choice..
it only has 4 voices of polyphony..
a (secondhand) Nord Lead..?
pretty much an allrounder..
DSI Evolver also really stands out..
It has a combination of real! analog and digital oscillators..
that means nice retro Tangerine Dream pads,
but also very capable of contemporary sounds due to the digital oscillators..
highly recommandable!
FM is a killer, and almost all paramaters are able to crossmodulate..
you can also control it by a vst..

Given the description of the kinds of sounds you want out of a synth, I highly recommend testing the brand new modular beast, Zebra 2. I realize you're specifically searching for a hardware unit, but this thing just came out and I'm quite enthusiastic about it right now, so I just have to mention it ... It's one of the most sophisticated synths to appear in recent years, no matter whether we're talking hardware or software.
It seems to excel in detailed, organic, otherworldy, creepy, emotional, moving, haunting, spacey, expressive sounds ... although it can clearly be used for a wide variety of more commonplace material as well. I think it's awesome.

ms2000 has a really cool step sequencer.
lots of crazy waveforms can be made thru the osc section, or use it as a vocoder, and there's a useful morph section too.
as mentioned, it wouldn't be great at making pads due to polyphony, but u could still get some nice tangerine arpeggios out of it - if thats what you're after...
in terms of the scope of sounds you can make, i think you can get alot out of an ms2000.

The ms2000 is pretty cool. I like the arp on it. I have the Nord Lead II and can say that it is able to cover about any sound I want. It does not have on board fx audio ins. I prefer to add my fx after the synth anyway. It is very, very nice as a controller and to just play. High quality.

I am really interested in the SH-201 (comes with VST Editor for Mac and Windows without forking additional $.) and it costs around 600 USD.
What are the pros and cons of each of these?
Korg ms2000b: 750 USD
Roland SH-201:
Korg R3 650 USD
KORG X50 at 700 USD
MicroKorg... 400 USD...
The MicroX I don't like because it doesn't have enough keys.. 650$
