Big wish to Ableton regarding the Forum!
Big wish to Ableton regarding the Forum!
I'm quite new to the Ableton forums and i'm already frustrated, because the flood of posts is concentrated in too few forums. It also leads to the impression, the software isn't complex and worthy enough, and therefore everything is packed in two forums.
My wish and suggestion is therefore, to open way more subforums.
I.e. (inspired by the excellent Logic forum @ Sonikmatter):
Live sequencer
Live's PlugIns
Live's Intruments (are Operator and Sampler not worth it?)
Tips and Tricks (no questioning threads allowed!)
3rd party VSTi
3rd party FX
hw controllers
production techniques
synth/music hardware
pc/audio hardware
music discussion
feature wishes
general discussions (music related)

I spend a lot of time on the forum, and I don't agree. More categories means less people will see your threads.
Possibly some sort of new separation for the general section, like the OT category which gets suggested often.
Otherwise, when I come home from work in the afternoon, there are only about 10 threads max which have been posted to since the morning, which is easily digestible.
I would agree that the categories are not the smartest - particularly "tips & tricks" - in which about 1 thread out of 100 actually offers a tip or trick. mostly it's asking for help...

Well, the problem is not, that you have the time to read them all, the problem is, that the different topics are mixed together and that therefore it is not possible to selectively read. Not everyone starting a thread knows, how to make thread-headlines.
This also leads way more easily to off-topic-discussions.
Another subforum idea:
Live in live use

Nah... I've been hanging out at a few forums that also use a bunch of sub-forums. And I just can't be bothered to click-in-click-out-click-in to notice the new threads that I'd like to read.
But I do agree that a lot of people suck at creating useful titles. Most of the time this falls back on the poster, though. I rarely read a post with the title "How come I can never...". And that's it. You'd have to open the post to get a picture of what the actual problem is about.

so you think that to be "worthy", things have to be complex?
what the hell are you doing using LIve then? its whole essence is the exact opposite of what you say.
I dont want the Live forum to become like the Logic forum, as much as i dont want Live to become another Logic.

I had the same experience when first visiting the board, but now I can see the advantage to having all the Live discussions in one category, as the long-standing users suggest.
However, the ordering on the first forum page (http://www.ableton.com/pages/forum) could be organised a little more logically:
Under "Users", there is "General" which is used primarily by users and Ableton for discussions about Live. So a better ordering would be:
Announcements
- Announcements
Live
- General
- Tips & Tricks
- Bugs & Problems
- Feature Wishlist
- Live 6 Beta Testing
Users
- Link your music
- Local
Just a small suggestion which would help new forum users like me.
(Hope this was constructive enough for a first ever post )

Re: Big wish to Ableton regarding the Forum!
I agree it would be nice to have at least a bit more of a categorization. I find I use this forum less than similar forums from other software manufactures because it's pretty much a free-for-all in the general category. I understand that some forums have too many categories, but a few more would be nice - you know - like a separate category for instruments like Sampler and Operater.Landser wrote:I'm quite new to the Ableton forums and i'm already frustrated, because the flood of posts is concentrated in too few forums.
