I just hit 40 a while ago, and honestly, as far as mentality, I would never want to go back to 20.

You guys might be OK, but I was a psycho at that age, beat up the owner of a club I just played at, had two girlfriends for the better part of a year, did crack in the Tenderloin in SF with two brothers and a girl I dated to get a place to stay, who later ended up on the cover of the local escort magazine..... sold on street corners.... I was tore up by my friends about that one.

So if you sometimes think you're a geek for playing around with Ableton and WoW whatever.... hey it's better than fucking a future crack whore in the tenderloin!

You couldn't be more right my friend. The one constant that moves forward as we get older is getting smarter. It's definitely something to look forward too. I'm more motivated about music and making records than I've ever been and hell, i can run 5 miles without stopping. A bunch of you young cats wouldn't be able to catch me.

After having met up with some of my old friends, ones who back in the day were smarter than me IMO, and realizing growth stopped, and also being 21 and realizing that age and wisdom weren't always hand in hand. well I still think that's true, some 18 year old will say something so profound it floors me every once on a while. Of course the people who have gained knowledge and wisdom with age, well I always was in admiration of them, and always will be.
One of the black guys I did crack with in that story said the wisest thing I think anybody on crack has ever said! He goes, "Damn! you're 20? Well I'm 42, now that doesn't mean necessarily I'm smarter or wiser than you, just that I've seen more blues than you!"
So yeah it's I think more like the possibility for growth is there, and the knowledge that maybe you don't know everything, that's a big one. It's fun talking to 20 year olds, they have it all figured out!

lol, kidding aside tho - WoW is a piece of shit, probably the biggest waste of time on this planet right now. Visual Crack. and absolutely 100% aimless.

fuck - it makes watching TV look like a good way to spend your precious time.

I feel equal measures of pity & contempt for WoW players.

actually, more contempt. waste of electricity too.

I'm 30 with only one child and I always tell everyone to make damn sure you got your career sorted before you join that club - it's great n all but it makes your life about a million times more complicated and limited - so many "shit I wish i did that first" things

but on the bright side when he's 18 I'll only be 3 years older than yer man here machinesworking!

A good friend in the UK only just got a degree and went into teaching in his early 40s and he's really happy with that - 40's still young these days

it was old age a few hundred years ago though!

yes, it's a strange thing in all regards. Different parts of people move forward as they experience life and others parts never move forward at all. And it's funny you should say that because thats very difficult to notice unless one has been around enough years to observe that. I also know others observe that about me lol.

Really old people and their disposition fascinate me the most. How do we want to be when we really get up there, because simply growing older can get one absolutely nothing other than old if one does or doesn't do .........?. There are plenty of miserable old people. Growing older didn't help them at all. That won't be me. Mainly because my life's education comes from everybody. Kids show me how to have balls all the time like they do, and old folks show me how it can go right (or wrong). I think the miserable old folks just stopped being kids and stopped observing their surroundings.

Then there's the hell and back experiences that snap us into place like your own brush with the wrong road. I've had a couple tough runs myself, but those experiences never go to waste. I'll tell ya one thing, ya can't learn much from winning all the time.
