6.01: Clips Redrawing Waveforms .. persistant

Post by Josh Von » Fri Dec 15, 2006 10:22 pm

Im noticing an issue in 6 that was also a sporadic issue in version 5:

I often need to drag large numbers of pre-warped full length tracks into the Session to either audition tracks for re-organization on my harddrive - or to make adjustments to clip parameters and re-save.

Three scenarios:

1 - When dragging clips that have previously been on my grid - Live "re-draws" the waveform ... the waveform area in Clip View is covered by a milky white film, which is then uncovered left to right by a normal dark look to the clip

NOTE: Live calls this "sample analysis" .. if you try and save the clip while this is happening, it gives the error 'cannot save until sample analysis is complete'

2 - If Live has never seen the clip before in the grid (new warped batch from another drive, say) the waveform is completley blank - then Live "uncovers" the waveform ... all markers and parameters are normal when uncovered, but this takes time and resources

3 - If a clip is on the grid - then - I move the clip to a new harddrive location in the Live browser - again the clip goes completely blank and needs to be "redrawn" from scratch (as in #2 above)

In actual fact:

The only time Live does not seem to need to do some kind of re-analysis on the clip, is when

- It has already been "seen" by Live on the live grid, and

- It is in the same location it was in the last time it was seen

In the case where we are moving the clip to a new location on the drive - this is somewhat understandable - however in the other instances this is taking up resources and ... when dealing with large numbers of clips ... it has hard-crashed Live more than once

For ableton:

Why does Live need to constantly re-analyze clips when all the information has been settled after the clip save process?

Isnt this a waste of resources, and when its this pervasive, a possible bug or oversight?

I've noticed this too. Seems to crash my G4 1.33ghz powerbook too. Only time live doesn't do this is if save the set after it "uncovers" the files and load it again

I have the same problem, Live 7.0.2 reanalyze all my music and it happens constantly, i work with many full song in one set, I'm a Dj and it is pretty awful for my work.

Do you discover why does it happen?

Please i need fixing this urgently
