Dell Laptop - Onboard Firewire w/ Firestudio

Post by spherop » Sun Dec 17, 2006 4:51 pm

i am having some problems getting a new firestudio to work with a new dell laptop (latitude d820). after install launching the fs mixer gets error "device cannot connect".

the dell has a 4 pin connection for firewire - therefore the 6pin to 6pin included cable cannot be used. and i used another i had laying around (6to4).

i am wondering if anyone here knows where my problem might lie. should the 4pin dell firewire connection work with a firestudio in theory? or is this somehow different type of firewire? or perhaps simply a bad cable? or just issues with dell's onboard firewire chipset?

where would you troulbe-shoot first?

any help appreciated.

In the same thread I found some interesting info:

"...
I believe M-audio drivers only work with Texas Instruments chipset. One fast and cheap solution might be Ideal Driver by CEntrance;
http://www.centrance.com/products/
I use it for my Firebox and it's super stable.
Also make sure you don't have Dell Wireless Card and I8kFangui. They cause audio dropouts."
