version 1 baby!
Stumbled on it looking for a mac version of Acid.
used the demo in my band for over a year before I bought v.2
It's been really cool watching how the software has taken over the DaW world.
Well deserved imo, I remember first time throwing a loop in and not having to time sync
fan for life.

I was a huge sp808 user as well, I think I've owned three of them by now.roach808 wrote:holy crap i never thought i would ever meet anybody who actually used that thing (sp808) besides me.
Anyway, I started using Live aroudn the end of version 3, right before version 4 was released. Strictly for live use though. Been watching it since it first came out, but was still doing all hardware live sets at the time.
Right around version 5 was when i started thinking about it for producing as well. It wasn't until version 6 that I made that jump though. Now I use it for pretty much everything in my studio sans mastering and wave editing (really wish Live was better on that front!).

I had the SP808, sold that and got the SP808ex when it came out. That was back when i had to record loops off sample CDs....yikes.Tarekith wrote:I was a huge sp808 user as well, I think I've owned three of them by now.roach808 wrote:holy crap i never thought i would ever meet anybody who actually used that thing (sp808) besides me.

I just used v5 a few days ago on a friend's machine (he hasn't upgraded either)...and I think it's really funny how with each upgrade, I think I'm not gonna need it, and then I just can't live without it within a very short time frame. The main improvements (besides racks and sampler) is the graphics engine improvement. Drawing automation in v5 is unbelievably slow compared to v6 when you have any significant CPU load. And not to mention if you have a dual core....beardedone wrote:I started with Version 3 and eventually upgraded to vs 5. But I hardly use it now and see no reason to upgrade to vs 6

You didn't have to sell your 808 to go EX - you just loaded the new OS off of a disk & you could upgrade the zip drive yourself -
I've been rocking Live since the beginning when it replaced my sp808 as well.....
Can you hear it?
well @ the time i thought it was a great idea.Hardtoe wrote:

I don't think that is "laf-able". Let's face it, as a full DAW, versions 1 and 2 left a lot to be desired.nebulae wrote:I looked at Live at version 1 and 2, but never really saw how it could possibly replace Sonar or Cubase. *laf*cough*
I think it's probably only since about version 4 or maybe even 5 that Live has started to make serious in roads into the market of more "traditional" DAW's.
Even now with version 6, as cool as Live is, it doesn't hold a candle to similar priced DAW's when it comes to audio editing. It makes up for it with it's scenes and ease of use.
I don't think there has been any intention to go toe to toe with mainstream DAW's, however.
