Anyway, people who own a lot of hardware seem to be either sound engineers or keyboard player. hardware allows a more intuitive access for designing sounds. professionals or hobbyists, who cares?
If you get the job done with less gear, your revenue is higher. so the chance you can make a living from it is better. that's professional in my interpretation
I can copy that. I'm a piano / keyboard / synthesizer player and just realy need a lot of keyboards to play on for expression. I have two hands both with five fingers and use them all to play around. I also like software very much because of all the posibility's and easy total recall (load and save).

I'm still looking for my perfect setup, witch of cause is an utopia and a never ending process. But i have found the right solution for me. Splitting things up.
  • Composing on hardware synthesizers.
  • Arranging and producing on the computer with Live 6.
  • Mixing on a real analogue console
You can do all of this in software, and actually i think i should, but somehow I prefer the toucht (tinkering sounds on synths), tweaking the EQ on the console (more musical, slightly darker, less sharp). Doing weird things like hooking up the SidStation, SPL Charisma and RE-501 to create some really pecial sounds. Layering different instruments. And in many cases a lot of time goes by before you get anything useful out of it, on the other hand there are real treasures made in this way.

Everyone should have the motto Less is More, sometimes i tend to forget about this...
Live 6.0.3 Win XP sp2, P4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB, UXGA video, RME Multiface (1), Nord Lead 3, Korg X5D, TR-Rack, ER-1, Roland Juno 106, JV-2080, Elektron Machinedrum-UW, SidStation, SPL Charisma, Soundtracs CP6800 (40/12/24), Genelec 1030A, Furutech TP80, etc.

The best speakers.

from all my past experiences with Genelecs as nice as they sound, dunno they sound 2 good for my personal taste. Everything for me will sound nice and pretty in happy-fun genelec land, but when i get it into a car stereo it isnt happy-fun pizza mix time anymore.

dont mind me, i'm a KRK nut anyho.

Don't forget a lot of us have been making music for years and years now, it's easy to aquire gear when you've been doing it for awhile.
