any recording pros? redcording Vibes
hi all...
im going to be recording a set of Vibes this weekend, in thinking of going with a normal stereo space mic setup, with maybe a mid - side too just to experiment.
im just wondering if anyone has experience in this?

If you are indeed talking about a vibraphone the trick is to get the right balance of mallet-on-metal sound and the tube+vibration sound.
in other words, I'd go for a stereo-on-top-plus-stereo-below solution. Or simply work a lot with height while trying to find a good balance.

A coincident stereo pair. If the artist isn't all over the vibes then you can move in a little closer for pad like stuff. If it's a featured sound. Consider two stereo pairs if you have the tracks. One overhead and the other getting some room vibe. Crush the shit out of the room and sneek it into the close mics.
