FW410 users- 10 analogue outs trick....

Post by OliQ » Wed Jan 03, 2007 11:48 pm

Dunno if anyone else has noticed this....

The headphone output of the M Audio FW410 can be setup in the control panel to monitor any of the output pairs.... including the SP/DIF. Therefore it must have it's own seperate D/A converter... meaning if you select the phones to listen into output SPDIF and no others you can you use a 1/4" jack to 2x Jack cable to get another 2 outputs on analogue, as anything you send to outputs 9&10 in Live gets sent out of this cable as well as the digital outs.

Useful if you want as many outs as possible for mixing in analogue, hope someone else finds this useful too =D.

I doubt I will ever need more than the 8 analogue outs but fair play I like the idea.

Any tips for how to use all four inputs at the same time? it seems I can only use 2 at a time then click the button on the device to change to the other 2 inputs.

Thanks

They probably share the same A/D converter so I don´t think it´s likely that you can.

The Line 6 TonePort I´m looking to buy has the same problem - the mic and guitar input don´t seem to work at the same time :(

Yes, the problem is there is only 2 channels of A>D conversion in the FW410. In order to use the 2 analog ins and the 2 digitals you need another a>D convertor. I had the idea of buying a CD/MD recorder with an analog in and a digital out as a cheap way of utilising the Digital ins with analog but I haven't tried it...

I thought one could never get enough analog outs... but maybe I'm a bit old school with my old analog mixing desk... =)
