Well Dave Smith's Evolution synth is both true analog AND digital, so it will be exciting to see this in a drum machine! Linn and Dave Smith have worked together quite a bit actually (I've met them both and bought my Evolution directly from Dave Smith himself!)Pitch Black wrote:"Digital and Analog Drum . . . what?"

OMG!! Totally sick. This thing will probably sound like hell, and that is a very good thing.
And, yeah, I agree, it is hideous looking. I never really thought the Evolvers looked that cool either. It is better to keep it simple and fresh. Purple is not to everyone's taste. The sp1200 was simple and clean. The old Sequential stuff was always pretty simple and clean too, so I don't know why Dave has gone in this new direction with his boxes.

In the 80's, companies were coming out with 'digital' synths because it was a buzz word at the time. Basically, this meant getting rid of the analog parts that were prone to failure and keeping what they could.
I only know this because I have a Korg DW8000 which was marketed as 'digital' as it has digital OSC's but the filters and delay unit are analog. Basically, the sound source is digital and the rest of the signal path is analog.
Could be vice versa though.

Ahh, I see what you were getting at. What does it say on that poster? It is a bit blurry at the end but it says "Analog + Digital Drum Machine"genshi wrote:Well Dave Smith's Evolution synth is both true analog AND digital, so it will be exciting to see this in a drum machine! Very excited about this, and it will go nicely along side my Evolver (though I wish I had the Poly!) This is bringing back the good 'ol days when I bought my very first synth brand new, a Sequential Circuits Prophet 600, and I "borrowed" my neighbor's Linn Drum! (He later disappeared and never asked for it back!)
Dave Smith and Roger Linn should hire Axel Hartmann (who designed all the Waldorf keyboards and his own Nueron) to do their industrial design. Then again, it may drive the price up more in that case...
