I keep having this bug where it detunes itself, making it unusable...

he was probably thinking of the pirated version

as far as free stuff goes.. supatrigga is great. Infact there is a lot of fun to be
had with lots of the smartelectronix stuff.. and I also like the free Ohmforce filter

ambience is a very good Reverb plugin, but it really eat's my CPU.

Efx:
Glitch (no words necessary)

Aries Verb (great!! for all kind of really crazy plate efx - very low cpu use..)
www.ariescode.com/ariesverb.html

Insta Jungle (mad looping and stuttering efx)

mda Fire (kind of delay based mod efx by smartelectronix)

io splonki (like an envelope controlled multi efx by smartelectronix)

Sonalksis TBK (great sounding Filter)

Izotope Vinyl (emulating Vinyl noises and humming)

Paul Stretch (not a vst, but killah standalone Timestrech Program which has a much better sound than Live, when you crank it up : Stretching from 20 sec. to 1 1/2 hours f.e. You really have to try it!! http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/paulstretch/ ---> only win

Instruments:

Drumatic 3 (my fav. for Drums, esp. Kicks - very good for tweaking)

Ritual Bass (great bass synth)

Sine Synth (for all kind bleepy stuff)

xoxos Pling (emulates strings to the extreme)
